FTs key for girls as Heavener sweeps Talihina at home

Heavener’s basketball teams swept Talihina on Tuesday during the second night of a three-part homestand.

Heavener’s girls (47) beat Talihina 32-30 at home.

Heavener led 14-8 at the end of the first quarter and 23-18 at halftime. The Black Diamond Conference rivals were tied 27all at the end of the third quarter.

The girls in purple and white only allowed a Sierra Sar 3-pointer in the fourth quarter.

Heavener shot 7-for-10 at the free-throw line while Talihina (3-9) missed all seven of hits attempts at the line in the fourth quarter.

Ava Cartwright hit all four of her fourth-quarter free throws, finishing with seven points.

McKinley Alexander led Heavener with 17 points, hitting a trio of treys in the first quarter. Cayleigh McGee had nine points.

Leah Dill posted nine points while Sar and Khloe Holland both had six points and Malaree Morris had five.

Heavener’s boys Talihina 58-41.

The Wolves (10-1), which are ranked 19th in Class 3A, led 12-10 at the end of the first quarter and defeated 22-19 at halftime before stretching their advantage to 42-30 by the end of the third quarter.

Heavener’s Bryce Morrison scored 10 of his 13 points in the third quarter.
