The news continued its recent trend of being good with regards to the latest update from Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH).

In Thursday morning’s weekly update, OSDH reports the number of active COVID cases dropped from last week’s 103 to Thursday’s 55 in LeFlore County.

Poteau saw a major drop in its number of active COVID cases as it went from 34 last week to 19 on Thursday, which still leads the county.

Talihina saw a drop from 23 last week to 18 on Thursday, while Heavener went from 14 to six. Spiro still has eight active cases, while Pocola dropped from eight last week to six as of Thursday.

Bokoshe, Panama, Hodgen, Muse and Whitesboro, which all had several active COVID cases last week show each town has none as of Thursday.

While last week’s OSDH update showed LeFlore County had 115 deaths reported, that number had the previous number of 109 — which would suggest the other six cases have now been ruled as non-COVID related.

Poteau still leads the way with 35 deaths either directly from COVID or indirectly from the virus, followed by Talihina with 23, Heavener with 13, Pocola and Spiro with eight each, Panama with seven and Arkoma, Bokoshe and Wister with five apiece.

As for the entire state, OSDH reported Oklahoma saw 3,673 new COVID cases reported during the week of Jan. 15-21, which was the exact same amount as the prior week.

The average number of daily COVID cases reported for Jan. 15-21 was 525, also the same amount as the previous week.

As of Jan. 21, there are 7,569 active COVID cases in the state, which is a 408 drop from last week’s update.

As of Jan. 21, Oklahoma has seen 1,270,476 COVID cases reported since the pandemic started in March 2020, just shy of a 5,000 jump from the prior week.

As of Jan. 21, there have been 17,652 deaths reported, which means there were 71 deaths from either the virus directly or from COVID indirectly during the week of Jan. 15-21.
