Talihina girls, Wolves win

Heavener’s girls basketball team served a second-half challenge, but Talihina held tough in the closing minutes on Senior Night for a 35-26 win in Black Diamond Conference play on Monday.

Talihina (7-12) led 9-4 at the end of the first quarter and 16-10 at halftime.

Heavener (6-14) scored the first four points of the third quarter before Talihina went on a 7-0 run, capped by a Parlani Brock baseline jump shot.

Talihina ended the third quarter ahead 24-17.

After two Courtney Hacker free throws gave Talihina a 26-20 lead, Heavener scored six straight points, including a pair of Brooklyn May free throws for a 26-all tie.

Leah Dill gave Talihina the lead for good with a layup at the 1:30 mark.

Malaree Morris sealed it with two free throws for a 31-26 lead with 27.6 seconds left.

Dill led Talihina with 12 points while Morris had six and Hacker and Brooke Whiteeagle each had four.

Ava Cartwright led Heavener with 10 points while May and Marianna Garcia each had six.

Heavener’s boys (17-3) jumped to a big lead early on their way to a 60-41 win.

Less than three minutes into the game, Dalton Semore hit a shot for a 13-2 lead.

The Wolves, which are ranked 19th in Class 3A, scored the last 10 points of the first quarter for a 23-4 advantage.

Isaac Cook drained a 3-pointer from the right wing with 16 seconds left in the half, allowing Heavener to enter the break with a 36-18 lead.

A pair of Ramses Hernandez jump shots put the Golden Tigers (5-16) within 39-28 by the 2:46 mark of the third period, but they trailed 46-30 entering the fourth.

Heavener’s Devry Ritter scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter.

Leading the Wolves, Semore scored 11 of his team-high 19 points in the first quarter. Semore drained a trio of treys, as did Cook, who finished with 11 points. Landon Thurman also had 11.

Kaidon Potts led Talihina with 17 points while Eric Rose had seven, Hernandez had five and Carter Shoecraft had four.
