Pocola patrons to vote on school board member, while Leflore, Monroe citizens look to approve bond issues in Tuesday’s election

Three local school districts — Pocola, Leflore and Monroe — will have elections take place Tuesday.

Citizens of Pocola will vote in a primary for Pocola Public Schools Board of Education Office No. 3 seat between Michael Severe, Josh Merritt and Roger Lairamore.

Not only will Pocola voting precincts 106 (Cross Community Church) and 107 (Pocola First Baptist Church) vote in the primary, but so, too, will Pocola school districts patrons in Arkoma precinct 108 (Arkoma First Baptist Church), Cameron precinct 109 (Cameron First United Methodist Church) and Spiro precinct 105 (Unite Church).

Two other school districts, Leflore and Monroe, will have school bond elections.

Leflore voters will vote on a $415,000 bond issue to provide funds for the purpose of constructi­ng, equipping, repairing and remodeling school buildings, acquiring school furniture, fixtures and equipment and acquiring and improving school sites, and levy and collect an annual tax, upon all the taxable Leflore Schools district property to pay the the interest on such bonds that will not exceed 10 percent.

Besides Leflore precinct 214 (Leflore Community Center) vote on the bond issue, Leflore Schools district citizens in Reichert precinct 309 (Reichert Community Center), Stapp-Zoe precinct 305 (Stapp-Zoe Community Center), Summerfiel­d precinct 215 (Summerfiel­d Community Center), Talihina precinct 301 (Clark Chapman Community Center), Talihina/ Whitesboro precinct 302 (Prairie Grove Church) and Wister precinct 202 (Bethel Baptist Church) can also cast their vote on the Leflore Schools bond issue as well as a couple of eastern Latimer County voting precincts.

Monroe patrons will be voting on two separate bond issues — the first propositio­n for a $45,000 bond at 10 percent interest and the other bond for $230,000,

Monroe School district voters eligible to cast ballots will be those in precincts 208 (Poteau First Baptist Church), 210 (Sugarloaf Christian Fellowship) and 311 (Faithbridg­e United Methodist Church at the Heavener East precinct site).
