Major squat helps Panama’s Jordan win state title

Panama had two boys place in the top five, led by 220-pound class champion Tristan Jordan, at the junior-high powerlifti­ng state meet on Thursday at El Reno High School.

Jordan totaled 1,055 pounds, beating Woodward’s Levi Harris by 25 pounds.

While Harris outlifted Jordan by five pounds on the bench press (245240) and 25 on the deadlift (430-405), Jordan beat him by 55 pounds on the squat (410-355).

Also at 220, Hunter Covey-Bond placed fourth with 970 pounds (385 on squat, 180 on bench press and 405 on deadlift).

Among others in the eighth-grade division, Talihina’s Talon Griffith placed fifth at 181. He totaled 865 pounds.

At 157, Poteau’s Caston Fox placed third with 855 pounds. At 132, Coy Fredrickso­n placed fourth with 750 pounds. Javier Ortiz was eighth with 710 pounds. At 114, Logan Waymire placed fifth with 555 pounds. At 145, Hudson Watkins was sixth with 810 pounds, five pounds outside the top five, although he had the best squat (350 pounds). At 181, Talyn Phillips was10th with 785 pounds.

In the seventh-grade division, Talihina’s Kai King took second with 535 pounds, including the best squat (210 pounds). At 114, Ryder Kirkes was seventh with 495 pounds. At 123, Gavin Brown was 10th with 540 pounds. At 198, Jack Worley was 10th with 630 pounds.

At 145, Panama’s Shane Wood was 10th with 590 pounds.

In the freshman division, Talihina’s Blaine Olson was 10th at 114 with 480 pounds.
