Sooners lose to Dallas Baptist on road

-

DALLAS, Texas —Oklahoma baseball dropped a back-and-forth midweek matchup Tuesday night at No. 24/25 Dallas Baptist, 11-7.

The Sooners (2-2) battled back from a fourrun deficit for the second consecutive game to tie the contest 7-7 in the top of the seventh, but a grand slam from DBU’s Nathan Humphreys proved to be the difference in the bottom of the inning.

OU junior Jackson Nicklaus hit two home runs for the second time of his career while redshirt senior Michael Snyder had a triple and his first home run as a Sooner.

The game lacked no offense, as the teams combined for 18 runs on 25 hits on a windy evening in Dallas.

The Sooners got on the board at the top of the first courtesy of an RBI single from junior Bryce Madron.

The Patriots (4-0) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom frame off a two-run home run from Miguel Santos.

Nicklaus hit his first homer of the night on a leadoff round-tripper at the top of the second to tie the game. Following a scoreless third, the Patriots put up three runs in the fourth.

An RBI triple down the right line and pair of RBI singles gave DBU a threerun cushion headed to the fifth, before the home team added one more in the fifth.

In the sixth, Oklahoma began its rally with two runs off wild pitches.

DBU answered with a solo homer in the bottom half to hold a 7-4 lead headed to the seventh.

The Sooners tied the contest in the seventh inning courtesy of Snyder (2 RBI) and Nicklaus’ backto-back jacks. It marked the first time since June 4, 2022, against Florida that the Sooners hit consecutive home runs. It was Snyder’s first homer as a Sooner after transferring from Washington where he hit 18. Nicklaus’ was his first of the year and 18th of his career.

The Patriots again responded in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases before Humphreys’ grand slam brought the score to 11-7, DBU. It would prove to be the final tally as a scoreless eighth and top nine ensued.
