Lovell among Teacher Character Award finalists
Spiro High School teacher Kasandra Lovell has been selected as one of the four state finalists for The Teacher Character Award. The Professional Oklahoma Educators (POE) Foundation recognizes and rewards Oklahoma educators who demonstrate a commitment to their students in teaching strength of character and excellence in the school or classroom.
The Teacher Character Award is the highest individual award given by the POE foundation. The award nominees must go through a rigorous application and evaluation process.
According to POE Foundation Executive Director Ginger Tinney, “These awards serve as an encouragement to not only Oklahoma educators, but also to the many businesses, organizations, and communities that have a stake in the character building and intellectual development of the children who will shape our state in the future.”
Rashel Maynard, a colleague of Mrs. Lovell, states, “Kasandra has demonstrated the importance of good character in her personal life and encouraged it in every class she has taught. From school events, field trips, to classroom activities she expects and discusses with students the importance of proper conduct and citizenship.”
“She always models good character qualities for her students, as well. Her positive nature is one of the things that students remember about her long after they leave her classroom,” adds Spiro school librarian Jordan Jones.
The four finalists are honored at a POE banquet in Oklahoma City, receiving a beautiful award, free POE membership for 2024-25, and a check for $1500. Lovell will travel to Oklahoma City on April 19 to receive this prestigious award. The POE extends its congratulations to Mrs. Lovell on her great achievement.
