Frauscher 747 Mirage

-

Senior Editor Kevin Koenig sniffs out the hottest upcoming launches, and checks back in with a few new boats that are selling like hotcakes. If Frauscher’s 747 Mirage looks like she’d be more at home on the Autobahn than the ICW well, there’s a reason for that. The boat was developed with cooperation from renowned Austrian automotive designer Gerald Kiska, who has worked with car companies such as Bugatti. Her fast lines will be matched by fast speeds, according to Frauscher CEO Stefan Frauscher, who told me the boat should do about 45 knots with a pair of 300-horsepower Mercruisers, and will top out at a blistering 56 knots with the twin 430-horsepower Mercruiser option. “Forty-five knots is perfect for a boat this size,” he says with a chuckle, “but of course, more speed is always possible.” The Mirage will debut at this year’s Cannes show. Launch Date September 2014 “We just wrote a big ol’ check to Vectorworks and released the hull geometry for their plug work,” Hatteras’s David Brown told me of the 70 Motor Yacht, “so you say that we’re committed now.” Brown, the company’s manager of new product design, is looking forward to this boat, which will debut at FLIBS in 2015. “It’s a very open design on this vessel, though a more sectionedoff, formal layout is available as well. We’re using the same design platform as we used for the 100. Our aim is to create a definitive family of boats.” So far, so good. Launch Date is FLIBS 2015.
