Otam Millennium 58 Hardtop

MY FIRST TAKE:

In the world of megayachts, it’s all about striking designs and grabbing attention when and where you can get it. Otam understands that well. Just look at this new build, Crazy Too, a 58-foot hardtop express with a custom black hull that debuted at the Cannes 2014 boat show. Crazy Too was built to serve as a chase boat for an Egyptian businessman’s megayacht, though something tells me that this vessel won’t exactly be playing second fiddle.

There is, of course, that black hull, and an aft deck completely ensconced in a carbon-like film designed by Wild Group International. A custom interior layout features three staterooms designed by Cristiano Gatto, all of which are fully outfitted to the owner’s druthers. Each is en suite, with the head in the starboard-side guest cabin doubling as a dayhead. The saloon’s plush L-shaped settee is complemented by a full galley with its own 16-bottle wine fridge. Glug, glug.

The owner apparently left Gatto with some very curt input. He wanted a “total-black look.” So not only is the exterior black, but the interior’s color scheme is as well. The furniture, with its rounded corners, is all mirror-finished in black, and even the sinks in the heads are made of black glass. It’s a look!

Crazy Too has twin 1,724-horsepower Caterpillar C32 ACERT engines that make her a true sport boat, with a top speed of 55 knots—which makes sense—you couldn’t possibly build a boat with snarling lines like these, in all black, and then underpower it. But those engines won’t be the only thing on this boat that roar. The owner was very concerned with the boat’s sound system, and made sure no expense was spared in that area. The cockpit alone will have six Revel speakers, said to deliver sound quality that any true audiophile will admire. Meanwhile both the saloon and master have full surround-sound speakers connected to their entertainment systems to deliver a cinematic experience while watching television. Almost all the systems onboard are controlled by iPhones and iPads, making for an efficient and easy-to-use operating system.

It will truly be hard to miss this boat, with her unique color scheme, stylish lines, and blaring speakers, as she zips around her mothership. That is, of course, unless it’s nighttime.
