Superfly GT 42

When renderings of the Superfly GT 42-RS surfaced just prior to the Cannes Yachting Festival, the design piqued my interest. From the bemusing name, which brought to mind cheesy bass guitar licks and handlebar mustaches, to its two-stepped hull design and spaceship-esque lines that look like something out of a futurist’s crazy fantasy, it all somehow worked for me.

Taken together, the Superfly concept will seamlessly blend performance with supercar styling for the water, according to Michael Reimer, CEO and owner of Flying Flipper. Reimer found a team that spoke his design language in the Turkish naval architecture firm Red Yacht Design. Part of that language can be seen in the retractable glass hardtop—or what Reimer calls part of the boat’s “wow factor.”

But this is a driver’s boat, so you can bet they considered its performance. “We took the center of gravity aft and lowered the outboards,” says Fatih Sürekli, naval architect and marine engineer for Red Yacht Design. The design features a 22degree deadrise, and two cabins—one forward and a large owner’s cabin aft—a salon with dining table and galley, and a wet head. As for speed, the flagship 42 will sport three 627-horsepower Seven Marine outboards for a combined 1,881 horsepower, with an estimated top speed of more than 65 knots.

Look for the Superfly GT 42 to debut at the Stockholm International Boat Show in March.
