Wake Up
The first time you watch someone wake surf it feels like you’re watching the law of physics cease to exist. I was riding shotgun in Sea Ray’s new SLX-W 230 when a lean, longhaired teenager threw the tow rope into the cockpit and rode behind us as we bounced along at 5 knots. My first impression: That looks fun. The SLX-W was designed foremost as a runabout that has wave-customizing technology adapted to it.
“This boat has all the features our customers like. It’s dry and handles seas well, but it has wake-surfing features,” says Fred Harrington, product development specialist for Sea Ray. “We worked hand in glove with our sister company Mercury Marine, which allowed us to use an exclusive 6.2-liter tow-sports engine.”
