• Saturday's $750,000 Grade II Stephen Foster Stakes at Churchill Downs features two of the horses that are considered contenders for the $6 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland on Nov. 5. Mandaloun, the official winner of the 2021 Kentucky Derby after the disqualification of Medina Spirit, is the 2-1 morningline favorite, followed by Olympiad at 5-2. Mandaloun, who also benefitted from a DQ in last summer's Haskell Stakes when Hot Rod Charlie was disqualified, will have Florent Geroux in the saddle for trainer Brad Cox.

• Life Is Good, who beat 2021 Horse of the Year Knicks Go in the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park and then faded to finish fourth in the Dubai World Cup, is the 1-2 morning-line favorite in Saturday's $250,000 Grade II Nerud Stakes at Belmont Park. The 4-year-old Into Mischief colt will be making his first start since the Dubai World Cup and Flavien Prat will ride for trainer Todd Pletcher. Speaker's Corner, third in the Met Mile on June 11 at Belmont, is the 6-5 second choice and will be ridden by Jose Ortiz for Bill Mott.

• Del Mar plans to card only eight races on Thursdays and Fridays this summer, with the exceptions being opening day, Friday, July 22, and the final Friday of the meet that ends Sept. 11. This year's $1 million Grade I Pacific Classic, the showcase of the meet, might include a Flightline-Country Grammer matchup on Sept. 3. Flightline is undefeated in four races, winning by a combined 43 1/2 lengths, and Country Grammer returns to the U.S. following an impressive victory in the $12 million Dubai World Cup on March 26.
