Independence Day holiday closures

-

Independence Day is celebrated this year on Monday, July 4, and South Bay residents should plan for the usual closures of federal, state and local buildings and agencies in observance of the holiday.

Some retail stores may be closed, but many retailers and most restaurants will remain open to take advantage of the holiday business. Del Amo Fashion Center, for example, will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 4.

Here is a sampling of services that are closed or have altered service on the Fourth of July.

Banks: Closed, as are New York Stock Exchange markets.

Libraries: Torrance Library, Redondo Beach libraries, Los Angeles City Library and Los Angles County Library branches, including Manhattan Beach County Library, are all closed.

Mail: The U.S. Postal Service does not deliver mail and post offices are closed.

Transit: Most public transit will run on a Sunday schedule by Long Beach Transit, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Los Angeles Department of Transportation, Orange County Transportation Authority and Torrance Transit. Metrolink's Orange County Line will operate on a weekend schedule. LADOT Commuter Express buses and Norwalk Transit will not operate.

Trash: Many places, but not all, will delay pickup by one day: Monday's trash will be picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday's trash will be picked up on Wednesday, and so on through the week. Long Beach will pick up waste on regularly scheduled days. To determine your specific pickup schedule, go to the website for your provider. Street sweeping: Street sweeping for certain cities is either canceled entirely or will be pushed back a day. Check with city websites for more information. Emergency services and other essential services will not be interrupted. You should reach out to specific agencies for more detailed information.
