• Trainer Bob Baffert has nominated two colts, Santa Anita Derby winner Taiba and Del Mar Futurity winner Pinehurst, to the $1million Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park on July 23. Trainer Chad Brown nominated three horses — Jack Christophe­r, Early Voting and Zandon. The Haskell, which Baffert has won a record nine times, would mark his return to Grade I competitio­n after serving a 90-day suspension. Taiba has not raced since finishing 12th in the Kentucky Derby and Pinehurst has not been seen since being eased in the UAE Derby on March 26.

• Los Alamitos announced this week that three stakes races worth $225,000will be run during its Autumn Festival, a seven-day meet that begins Friday, Sept. 16and continues through Sunday, Sept. 25. Racing will be conducted Friday-Sunday the first week and Thursday-Sunday the final week. First post each day will be 1p.m. The three stakes races, all with purses of $75,000, include the E.B. Johnston for 3-year-olds and up bred or sired in California (Sept. 17), the Los Alamitos Special for 3-year-olds and older (Sept. 24) and the Capote for 2-yearolds (Sept. 25).

• Stephen Foster Stakes winner Olympiad jumped from seventh to third in this week's Breeders' Cup Classic rankings. He received three first-place votes from a panel of 42that weekly ranks the top 10Classic contenders. Flightline remained atop the rankings with 21 first-place votes, followed by Life Is Good (two). Country Grammer (one) and Hot Rod Charlie round out the top five. Rankings will be announced each week through Oct. 11. The Classic will be run Nov. 5at Keeneland.
