Long Beach City College's executive ranks are getting some new names.

Two new vice presidents — who will lead the school's student and business services divisions — were officially confirmed by the Long Beach Community College District's Board of Trustees, according to a news release Thursday.

Each semester, according to LBCC, the college's two campuses serve more than 25,000 students from Avalon, Lakewood, Long Beach and Signal Hill.

Nohel Corral, who had served as LBCC's dean of counseling since 2014, has officially been appointed as the college's executive vice president of student services — after holding the job in an interim capacity since March 2021.

The Student Services division helps students access necessary resources to complete their degrees, according to an LBCC press release. Corral specifically will oversee counseling, enrollment, student affairs, equity and athletics.

Corral's $249,705 annual contract expires in June 2024, according to LBCC spokesperson Camille Bolton.

“Dr. Corral has dedicated himself to working with diverse student populations throughout his career,” said board President Uduak-Joe Ntuk. “He actively engages with his colleagues and students to produce positive, equitable results, so we know he will thrive in this position at LBCC.”

The vice president position freed up after Mike Muñoz, who had held the job since 2018, was promoted to interim superintendent-president in March 2021. He was handed the reins permanently in December.

A similar situation led to a vacancy in the vice president of business services position — a post that now belongs to Raymond “Chip” West, who's worked in academic finance for more than 25 years, according to the LBCC release.

Most recently, West held leadership positions at the

University of La Verne and Riverside City College, according to LBCC.

West's new job was previously held by Marlene Drinkwine, who left LBCC in March 2021 to join the Coast College District as vice chancellor of finance and administrative services.

West, who started the new position July 5, will oversee districtwide finances, facilities, and business and technology services until June 2024, when his $240,749 annual contract will be up for renewal, Bolton said.

LBCC “is very fortunate to have West join us at this point in time,” Ntuk said. “Our bond construction program is in fullswing, our student life is rebounding from the pandemic and California Community College budgets are at record levels, so we are glad to have such an experienced professional in this key fiscal position.”
