Second-half charge lifts Kansas State over Baylor

Keyontae Johnson scored 25 points, Markquis Nowell added 14 points and 10 assists, and host No. 14 Kansas State used a big second-half run to beat ninth-ranked Baylor 75-65 on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats (21-7, 9-6 Big 12) trailed 34-31 at the break before an 18-4 charge gave them control as they won their seventh game over a ranked team this season.

Keyonte George hit six 3-pointers and scored 23 points for Baylor (20-8, 9-6), which had won seven of its last eight against the Wildcats and three straight in Manhattan. LJ Cryer added 16 points.

Baylor was coming off an 87-71 loss at Kansas on Saturday.

The Wildcats scored a 97-95 overtime win over the Bears in early January.

NO. 8 TEXAS 72, NO. 23 IOWA STATE 54 » Sir'Jabari Rice and Tyrese Hunter each scored 15 points and the Longhorns earned a home win over the Cyclones that kept them at the top of the Big 12.

Texas (22-6, 11-4) is tied with No. 3 Kansas for first place with three games left in the regular season.

The Longhorns shook off a sluggish start with a 16-0 run keyed by Hunter, who was the Big 12 freshman of the year last season at Iowa State before transferri­ng to Texas.

Texas made nine 3s in the first half and shot 55% in taking a 19-point halftime lead.

Osun Ossunniyi scored 12 points to lead Iowa State (17-10, 8-7).

NO. 10 MARQUETTE 73, NO. 19 CREIGHTON 71 » Tyler Kolek's short jump shot gave the visiting Golden Eagles the lead with 29 seconds left and they took a huge step toward the Big East regular-season title with a win over the Bluejays.

Kam Jones led Marquette (22-6, 14-3) with 19 points and Kolek and Oso Ighodaro added 18 apiece.

Baylor Scheierman had 18 points to lead Creighton (18-10, 12-5).

NO. 25 TEXAS A&M 68, NO. 11 TENNESSEE 63 » Wade Taylor IV scored 25 points, including four free throws down the stretch, and the Aggies extended their winning streak to six games with a home victory over the Volunteers.

Texas A&M (21-7, 13-2 SEC) is off to its best start since joining the SEC in the 2012-13 season.

It's the fourth loss in five games for Tennessee (20-8, 9-6), with its only win in this stretch coming in a 68-59 victory over then-No. 1 Alabama on Wednesday.

Santiago Vescovi and Zakai Zeigler had 14 points each for Tennessee.

Marble added 21 points with nine rebounds for the Aggies, who haven't lost since Jan. 21.

NO. 13 MIAMI (FLA) 76, VIRGINIA TECH 70 » Norchad Omier had 17 points and 14 rebounds as the visiting Hurricanes (23-5, 14-4 ACC) beat the Hokies (16-12, 6-11) for their seventh straight win.

VILLANOVA 64, NO. 16 XAVIER 63 » Justin Moore scored 25 points to give the visiting Wildcats (14-14, 8-9 Big East) their biggest win under first-year coach Kyle Neptune.

Souley Boum had 17 points for Xavier (20-8, 12-5), which played its sixth game without second-leading scorer and leading rebounder Zach Freemantle, who scored 29 points in an 88-80 win at Villanova on Jan. 7. Freemantle is out with a foot injury.

Women

ST. JOHN'S 69, NO. 4 UCONN 64 » Danielle Patterson and Kadaja Bailey each scored 20 points and the Red Storm stunned the Huskies in Hartford.

Jayla Everett added 17 points for St. John's (20-7, 11-7 Big East), which beat UConn for the first time in 11 years.

Lou Lopez Senechal scored 18 points for UConn (24-5, 16-2), which was looking to secure a share of its 29th regular-season conference title.

UConn had a chance to tie it late, but Caroline Ducharme missed her short jumper badly and Jayla Everett hit a baseline jumper to extend the lead to four points.

St. John's held UConn to 35.5% shooting and outrebound­ed the Huskies 42-37.

The Red Storm led 35-30 at the half, but the Huskies went on a 13-0 run to take a 43-35 lead before St. John's rallied back.

UConn won the first meeting between the two teams by 30 points in January,
