International City Theatre presents Arts and Humanitarian Award
The International City Theatre's encore event, the 38th annual James Ackerman Crystal Arts and Humanitarian Award, took place on Sept. 20.
The glamorous setting of the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center's Arena Lobby was a perfect setting for the champagne reception, which included music and a wine pull.
In the festive Pacific Ballroom, 200 guests sipped wine and dined on a tasty dinner, as a Cal State Long Beach jazz trio played in the background. International City Theatre board co-President Jim Preusch welcomed the throng and introduced the master of ceremonies, board Vice President Cory Allen. Preusch and Artistic Director/producer caryn desai honored this year's award recipients before the enthusiastic crowd. Louis and Elizabeth Altman, Gary Fox and the Earl B. and Loraine H. Miller Foundation Recipients were recognized for their service, philanthropy and support of arts and education.
Board member David Zanatta prepared the videos for the honorees, which was shown before Randy Gordon, the enthusiastic auctioneer, performed his talent. Dinner co-chairs for the evening were Cal State Long Beach President Jane Close Conoley and Cathy Wieder, the executive director of development at MemorialCare Miller Children's and Women's Hospital Long Beach.
Key supporters were presenting sponsor and Crystal Event Executive Producer Ackerman Family/Bauer Foundation and Crystal Event Sponsor the Temple Family Charitable Foundation.
Funds raised will support International City Theatre's 2024 professional productions and six education programs, which reach thousands of children and seniors annually in every district of Long Beach and surrounding communities. Mayor's Cup
The Long Beach Century Club hosted the 15th Annual Mayor's Cup Golf Tournament on Sept. 14 at Skylinks Golf Course. Chaired by Ray Lasher, the event raised $109,000 for youth and amateur athletics in Long Beach.
In the inaugural year for Mayor Rex Richardson, the event included a sell-out of participants, silent and live auctions, and the participation of numerous community sponsors, including Gold Sponsors Local 1309, SA Recycling and Sunstone.
“Your participation will make it possible for young people to build character, develop leadership skills, and improve their health and wellness through sports,” Richardson said, “while earning educational scholarships to help ensure success in college and beyond.”
