PREVIEWS OF TODAY'S TOP FOOTBALL GAMES

With less than two weeks remaining before the CIF Southern Section football playoff brackets are revealed on Oct. 29, here is a look at the area's top games today with postseason implicatio­ns:

ST. JOHN BOSCO (7-1, 3-0) AT JSERRA (4-4, 1-2)

Where, when: JSerra High,

7 p.m.

Analysis: St. John Bosco is coming off its biggest regular-season win in recent years with its 28-0win over Mater Dei. UCLA commit Cameron Jones is hitting his stride as a runner with over 130yards in each of his past three games with five touchdowns. Bosco's defense was fantastic against Mater Dei and Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa led the effort with 11tackles. The Braves had three sacks and Idaho commit Frankie Edwards III had an intercepti­on. JSerra is under firstyear head coach Victor Santa Cruz, who previously served as the head coach at Azusa Pacific University. Arizona State commit Michael Tollefson is the quarterbac­k for the Lions and is dangerous with his legs. Two high-profile juniors, Luke Webb and Madden Faraimo, lead the JSerra defense. The Lions

are coming off a narrow loss to Santa Margarita where they lost on a field goal with one second remaining in the game.

DOWNEY (6-2, 2-1) VS. MAYFAIR (6-2, 2-1)

Where, when: Bellflower

High, 7 p.m.

Analysis: Downey suffered its first league loss last week to rival Warren in the first high school game to take place at SoFi Stadium. Sophomore quarterbac­k Oscar Rios was efficient, completing 10of 13passes with a rushing touchdown. The Vikings had four players

record double-digit tackles with Aidan Gomez and Jake Felix leading the way with 14 and 13 tackles, respective­ly. Anthony Francis returned an intercepti­on for a touchdown in the loss. Jeremiah Calvin threw two touchdown passes and ran for a touchdown for Mayfair in its 28-14 win over Dominguez last week. Gavin Ingram had an intercepti­on for the Monsoons. Downey has won the past four games between the two schools. This game is likely to decide the second-place team in the Gateway League.

WILSON (3-5, 2-3) AT LAKEWOOD (3-5, 2-2)

Where, when: Lakewood

High, 7 p.m.

Analysis: Lakewood is coming off a bye after suffering a blowout loss to Millikan. The running back duo of Charlie Wright and Nytrell Miller is capable of big games on the ground. Sophomore Kade Casillas has been one of the better quarterbac­ks in the Moore League with an average of 187 yards per game with 13 touchdowns. Wilson made a late surge but lost to Jordan 49-43 last week. Christian Chapman ran for 187 yards with three touchdowns in the loss and Laighton Scott V is also dangerous on the ground. Sophomore Mack Cooper had the best game of his young career with 230 yards passing with two touchdowns. The winner of this game will likely clinch at least the fourth-place spot in the Moore League standings and still has a shot at third place.

LOS ALAMITOS (6-2, 3-0) AT HUNTINGTON BEACH (4-4, 1-2)

Where, when: Huntington Beach High, 7 p.m.

Analysis: Alonzo Esparza threw for 346yards last week against Corona del Mar and had six touchdowns (four passing, two rushing) for Los Alamitos. Anthony League had a pair of touchdowns and the trio of Hayden Eligon, Davon Mitchell and Lenny Ibarra each had touchdown receptions. USC commit Isaiah Rubin returned an intercepti­on for a touchdown for the Griffins and Manoah Faupusa was dominant on the defensive line. Huntington Beach is coming off a blowout win over Fountain Valley. Tyler Young ran for 288 yards with a pair of touchdowns in the win. Freshman quarterbac­k Brady Edmunds leads the Oilers and has offers from Arizona State and Connecticu­t. If Los Alamitos wins this game, it will set up a likely Sunset League championsh­ip game next week against Edison.
