Cuylle's goal lifts Rangers to sixth consecutiv­e win

Will Cuylle scored the tiebreakin­g goal midway through the third period, Igor Shesterkin made 27 saves and the host New York Rangers beat the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 on Thursday night for their sixth straight win.

Chris Kreider also scored for the Rangers, who have eight wins in their first 10 games for the second time in franchise history. The 8-2-0 start is second only to a 9-1-0 mark to begin the 1983-84 season.

Seth Jarvis had the goal for Carolina, which had won three straight. Frederik Andersen finished with 24 saves.

Cuylle converted a pass from defenseman Jacob Trouba to score his second career goal past Andersen at 10:21 of the third.

BRUINS 3, MAPLE LEAFS 2 (SO) ❯❯ Jake DeBrusk and Charlie Coyle scored in the shootout and host Boston beat Toronto. DeBrusk and Paval Zacha scored in regulation for the Bruins, who lead the Eastern Conference with a 9-0-1 record. Jeremy Swayman made 33 saves. Mitchell Marner and Auston Matthews scored for the Maple Leafs.

ISLANDERS 3, CAPTIALS 0 ❯❯ Ryan Pulock, Simon Holmstrom and Brock Nelson scored on three of the Islanders' first five shots and visiting New York beat Washington, stopping the

Capitals' winning streak at three. Semyon Varlamov stopped all 32 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season and 22nd of his NHL career.

DEVILS 5, WILD 3 ❯❯ Jesper Bratt had a goal and three assists as visiting New Jersey beat Minnesota. Timo Meier, Alexander Holtz, Michael McLeod and Dougie Hamilton also scored for the Devils, while Jack Hughes added two assists to push his league-leading total to 15. Vitek Vanecek stopped 22 shots for New Jersey, which has won five of its past six games.

Kirill Kaprizov, Marco Rossi and Jake Middleton scored for the Wild.

STARS 4, OILERS 3 ❯❯ Roope Hintz had two goals and an assist, Scott Wedgewood made 46 saves and visiting Dallas earned its third straight win. Joe Pavelski had a goal and two assists and Matt Duchene also scored for the Stars (7-1-1). Sam Gagner scored twice in his return to the lineup and Evander Kane also had a goal struggling Oilers (2-6-1) , who have lost five of their last six.

GOLDEN KNIGHTS 5, JETS 2 ❯❯ Jonathan Marchessau­lt scored a hat trick to lead host Vegas. His final goal was into an empty net at 17:08 of the third period. Williams Karlsson added a goal and an assist for the Golden Knights. Alex Iafallo and Kyle Connor each had a goal and an assist for Winnipeg.
