CUTTING

From medium pink print: • Cut 3 (37/8" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 30 (37/8") K squares; cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 60 K triangles.

From pink/white medallion print: • Cut 1 (21/2" by fabric width) strip.

Subcut strip into 15 (21/2") A squares. • Cut 5 (31/2" by fabric width) T/U strips.

From light pink/white print: • Cut 3 (37/8" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 30 (37/8") J squares; cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 60 J triangles. • Cut 2 (11/2" by fabric width) B strips. • Cut 5 (11/2" by fabric width) F strips. Subcut 1 strip into 1 (11/2" x 21")

F half strip. From aqua dot: • Cut 5 (2" by fabric width) E strips. Subcut 1 strip into 1 (2" x 21")

E half strip. • Cut 3 (11/2" by fabric width) E strips. Subcut strips into 60 (11/2" x 2")

E rectangles. • Cut 10 (11/2" by fabric width) R/S/ V/ W strips. From dark pink medallion print: • Cut 3 (11/2" by fabric width) strips.

Subcut strips into 60 (11/2") L squares. • Cut 10 (11/2" by fabric width) P/Q/ X/ Y strips. • Cut 6 (21/4" by fabric width) binding strips. From white solid: • Cut 2 (11/2" by fabric width) C strips. • Cut 30 (11/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 30 each 11/2" x 81/2" O, 11/2" x 61/2" N, 11/2" x 51/2" H, 11/2" x 41/2" I and 11/2" x 31/2" G strips; and 30 (11/2") D and 180 (11/2") M squares. COMPLETING THE IRISH CHAIN BLOCKS 1. Sew a B strip to a C strip with right sides together along length to make a B-C strip set; press. Repeat to make a second strip set. 2. Subcut the B-C strip sets into 30 (21/2" x 21/2") B-C units as shown in Figure 1. 3. Repeat step 1 with E and F strips and half strips to make four E-F strip sets and one E-F half-strip set. Subcut strip sets into 120 (11/2" x 3") E-F units as shown in Figure 2.

4. To complete one Irish Chain block, select one A square; two each B-C units, D squares and G, H and I rectangles; four E rectangles; and eight E-F units.

5. Join the two B-C units with A to make an A-B-C row as shown in Figure 3; press.

6. Join two E-F units with a D square to make a D-E-F row as shown in Figure 4; press. Repeat to make a second row.

7. Sew the A-B-C row between the two D-E-F rows and add an I strip to each short end to complete the block center as shown in Figure 5; press.

8. Join two E-F units with G to make an E-F-G row as shown in Figure 6; press. Repeat to make a second row.

9. Sew the E-F-G rows to opposite long sides of the block center as shown in Figure 7; press.

10. Sew an E rectangle to each short end of an H strip to make an E-H row referring to Figure 8; press. Repeat to make a second row.

11. Sew an E-H row to opposite sides of the previously pieced unit to complete one Irish Chain block as shown in Figure 9; press.

12. Repeat steps 4–11 to complete a total of 15 Irish Chain blocks.

COMPLETING THE FLOWER BLOCKS

1. Sew a J triangle to a K triangle along the diagonal edges to make a J-K unit as shown in Figure 10; press. Repeat to make a total of 60 J-K units.

2. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each L and M square.

3. Referring to Figure 11 and with the K triangle on the left, place an L square right sides together on the bottom corner of one J-K unit and stitch on

the marked line. Note: Placement of the L square is critical for the design to work correctly; pay close attention to the drawings to orient the pieces properly.

4. Trim beyond stitched line 1/4" and press L to the right side as shown in Figure 12.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with an M square on each of the remaining corners of the J-K unit to complete one flower unit as shown in Figure 13.

6. Repeat steps 3–5 with the remaining L and M squares and J-K units to complete a total of 60 flower units.

7. To complete one Flower block, select four flower units and two each N and O strips.

8. Arrange and join two flower units to make a row; press. Repeat to make a second row. Join the rows to complete the block center as shown in Figure 14; press.
