CUT­TING

From medium pink print: • Cut 3 (37/8" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut strips into 30 (37/8") K squares; cut each square in half on 1 di­ag­o­nal to make 60 K tri­an­gles.

From pink/white medal­lion print: • Cut 1 (21/2" by fab­ric width) strip.

Sub­cut strip into 15 (21/2") A squares. • Cut 5 (31/2" by fab­ric width) T/U strips.

From light pink/white print: • Cut 3 (37/8" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut strips into 30 (37/8") J squares; cut each square in half on 1 di­ag­o­nal to make 60 J tri­an­gles. • Cut 2 (11/2" by fab­ric width) B strips. • Cut 5 (11/2" by fab­ric width) F strips. Sub­cut 1 strip into 1 (11/2" x 21")

F half strip. From aqua dot: • Cut 5 (2" by fab­ric width) E strips. Sub­cut 1 strip into 1 (2" x 21")

E half strip. • Cut 3 (11/2" by fab­ric width) E strips. Sub­cut strips into 60 (11/2" x 2")

E rec­tan­gles. • Cut 10 (11/2" by fab­ric width) R/S/ V/ W strips. From dark pink medal­lion print: • Cut 3 (11/2" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut strips into 60 (11/2") L squares. • Cut 10 (11/2" by fab­ric width) P/Q/ X/ Y strips. • Cut 6 (21/4" by fab­ric width) bind­ing strips. From white solid: • Cut 2 (11/2" by fab­ric width) C strips. • Cut 30 (11/2" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut strips into 30 each 11/2" x 81/2" O, 11/2" x 61/2" N, 11/2" x 51/2" H, 11/2" x 41/2" I and 11/2" x 31/2" G strips; and 30 (11/2") D and 180 (11/2") M squares. COM­PLET­ING THE IR­ISH CHAIN BLOCKS 1. Sew a B strip to a C strip with right sides to­gether along length to make a B-C strip set; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond strip set. 2. Sub­cut the B-C strip sets into 30 (21/2" x 21/2") B-C units as shown in Fig­ure 1. 3. Re­peat step 1 with E and F strips and half strips to make four E-F strip sets and one E-F half-strip set. Sub­cut strip sets into 120 (11/2" x 3") E-F units as shown in Fig­ure 2.

4. To com­plete one Ir­ish Chain block, se­lect one A square; two each B-C units, D squares and G, H and I rec­tan­gles; four E rec­tan­gles; and eight E-F units.

5. Join the two B-C units with A to make an A-B-C row as shown in Fig­ure 3; press.

6. Join two E-F units with a D square to make a D-E-F row as shown in Fig­ure 4; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond row.

7. Sew the A-B-C row be­tween the two D-E-F rows and add an I strip to each short end to com­plete the block cen­ter as shown in Fig­ure 5; press.

8. Join two E-F units with G to make an E-F-G row as shown in Fig­ure 6; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond row.

9. Sew the E-F-G rows to op­po­site long sides of the block cen­ter as shown in Fig­ure 7; press.

10. Sew an E rec­tan­gle to each short end of an H strip to make an E-H row re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 8; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond row.

11. Sew an E-H row to op­po­site sides of the pre­vi­ously pieced unit to com­plete one Ir­ish Chain block as shown in Fig­ure 9; press.

12. Re­peat steps 4–11 to com­plete a to­tal of 15 Ir­ish Chain blocks.

COM­PLET­ING THE FLOWER BLOCKS

1. Sew a J tri­an­gle to a K tri­an­gle along the di­ag­o­nal edges to make a J-K unit as shown in Fig­ure 10; press. Re­peat to make a to­tal of 60 J-K units.

2. Draw a di­ag­o­nal line from cor­ner to cor­ner on the wrong side of each L and M square.

3. Re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 11 and with the K tri­an­gle on the left, place an L square right sides to­gether on the bot­tom cor­ner of one J-K unit and stitch on

the marked line. Note: Place­ment of the L square is crit­i­cal for the de­sign to work cor­rectly; pay close at­ten­tion to the draw­ings to ori­ent the pieces prop­erly.

4. Trim beyond stitched line 1/4" and press L to the right side as shown in Fig­ure 12.

5. Re­peat steps 3 and 4 with an M square on each of the re­main­ing cor­ners of the J-K unit to com­plete one flower unit as shown in Fig­ure 13.

6. Re­peat steps 3–5 with the re­main­ing L and M squares and J-K units to com­plete a to­tal of 60 flower units.

7. To com­plete one Flower block, se­lect four flower units and two each N and O strips.

8. Ar­range and join two flower units to make a row; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond row. Join the rows to com­plete the block cen­ter as shown in Fig­ure 14; press.
