• 3/ 8 yard pink tonal • 3/ 8 yard yel­low tonal • 3/ 8 yard each dark pink and sal­mon tonals • 1/2 yard green tonal • 11/ 8 yards white solid • Back­ing to size • Bat­ting to size • Thread • Ba­sic sewing tools and sup­plies

CUT­TING

From pink tonal: • Cut 4 (21/4" by fab­ric width) bind­ing strips. From yel­low tonal: • Cut 1 (43/8" by fab­ric width) strip. Sub­cut strip into 4 (33/4" x 43/8") D2 rec­tan­gles and 2 (41/4" x 71/4") D1 rec­tan­gles. • Cut 2 (21/2" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut strips into 29 (21/2") G squares. From dark pink & sal­mon tonals: • Cut 1 (43/8" by fab­ric width) strip each fab­ric. Sub­cut strips into 3 (33/4" x 43/8") D2 rec­tan­gles and 2 (41/4" x 71/4") D1 rec­tan­gles each fab­ric. • Cut 2 (21/2" by fab­ric width) strips each fab­ric. Sub­cut dark pink strips into 27 (21/2")

G squares. Sub­cut sal­mon strips into 31 (21/2")

G squares. From green tonal: • Cut 2 (5" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut strips into 10 (11/2" x 5") A rec­tan­gles and 20 (3"x 5") B rec­tan­gles. • Cut 1 (21/2" by fab­ric width) strip.

Sub­cut strip into 15 (21/2") G squares.

From white solid: • Cut 2 (3" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut strips into 20 (3") C squares. • Cut 2 (21/4" by fab­ric width) strips. Sub­cut strips into 10 (21/4" x 77/8")

E rec­tan­gles.

• Cut 1 (8½" by fab­ric width) strip. Sub­cut strip into 8 (2½" x 8½") F rec­tan­gles and 6 (2½" x 4½") H rec­tan­gles. • Cut 4 (2½" by fab­ric width) strips. Trim strips to make 2 each 2½" x 38½"

I strips and 2½" x 32½" J strips.

COM­PLET­ING THE BLOCKS

1. With right side up, cut each D1 rec­tan­gle from the bot­tom right cor­ner to the top left cor­ner to make D1 tri­an­gles as shown in Fig­ure 1. Set aside one each dark pink and sal­mon D1 tri­an­gle for another project.

2. Fold in half along length and crease each D2 rec­tan­gle and mark the cen­ter on the top short edge as shown in Fig­ure 2.

3. Us­ing a straight­edge, cut from each bot­tom cor­ner to the marked top cen­ter to make 10 D2 tri­an­gles re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 3.

4. Re­peat steps 2 and 3 with the E rec­tan­gles, ex­cept fold in half across width and mark the cen­ter on the top long edge, to make 10 E tri­an­gles as shown in Fig­ure 4.

5. Draw a di­ag­o­nal line from cor­ner to cor­ner on the wrong side of each C square.

6. Re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 5, place a C square right sides to­gether on a B rec­tan­gle and stitch on the marked line. Trim seam to ¼" and press C to the right side to com­plete a B-C unit. Re­peat to make a to­tal of 10 B-C units.

7. Re­peat step 6 to make 10 re­versed B-C units re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 6.

8. To com­plete one Tulip Time block, se­lect one each match­ing D1 and D2 tri­an­gle, one E tri­an­gle, one each B-C and re­versed B-C unit and one A rec­tan­gle.

9. Join the B-C and re­versed B-C units with A to make a leaf/stem unit as shown in Fig­ure 7; press. 10. Sew D2 to E and add D1 to make a tulip unit as shown in Fig­ure 8; press. Trim unit to 3½" x 6½" if nec­es­sary.

11. Sew the leaf/stem unit to the tulip unit to com­plete one Tulip Time block re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 9; press.

12. Re­peat steps 8–11 to com­plete three each dark pink and sal­mon and four yel­low Tulip Time blocks.

COM­PLET­ING THE QUILT

Re­fer to the Assem­bly Di­a­gram for po­si­tion­ing of blocks to com­plete the quilt.

1. Ar­range and join five Tulip Time blocks with four F rec­tan­gles to make a block row; press. Re­peat to make a sec­ond block row.

2. Se­lect and join two G squares to make a G unit as shown in Fig­ure 10; press. Re­peat to make a to­tal of 51 G units.

3. Ar­range and join 17 G units and add an H rec­tan­gle to each end to make a G-H row re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 11; press. Re­peat to make a to­tal of three G-H rows.

4. Ar­range and join the block rows with the G-H rows to com­plete the pieced cen­ter; press.

5. Sew I strips to the top and bot­tom and J strips to op­po­site short ends of the pieced cen­ter to com­plete the quilt top; press.

6. Cre­ate a quilt sand­wich re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 110. 7. Quilt as de­sired. 8. Bind re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 110 to fin­ish.
