Spot Me a Five

Here's the perfect quilt project in which to use your fat quarters, fat eighths or some of your stash.

MATERIALS

• 12 light print fat eighths • 12 medium print fat eighths • 12 medium-to- dark print fat eighths • 12 medium-to- dark print fat quarters • 5/ 8 yard pink tonal • 21/4 yards tan solid • Backing to size • Batting to size • Thread • Basic sewing tools and supplies

CUTTING

From each light print fat eighth: • Cut 2 (37/8") squares. Cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 4 B triangles (48 B triangles total). From each medium print fat eighth: • Cut 4 (37/8") squares. Cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 8 C triangles (96 C triangles total). From each medium-to-dark print fat eighth: • Cut 2 (67/8") squares. Cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 4 D triangles (48 D triangles total). From each medium-to-dark print fat quarter: • Cut 2 (43/4" x 21") strips. Subcut strips into 5 (43/4") A squares

each fabric (60 A squares total). From pink tonal: • Cut 7 (21/4" by fabric width) binding strips. From tan solid: • Cut 5 (37/8" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 48 (37/8") squares. Cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 96 F triangles. • Cut 4 (67/8" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 24 (67/8") squares. Cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 48 E triangles. • Cut 7 (3" by fabric width) G/H strips.

COMPLETING THE BLOCKS

1. To complete one Spot Me a Five block, select matching sets of five A squares, four B triangles, eight C triangles and four D triangles; select four E triangles and eight F triangles. 2. Sew a B triangle to each side of A to make a center unit as shown in Figure 1. 4. Sew a D triangle to an E triangle to make a corner unit as shown in Figure 3; press. Repeat to make a total of four corner units.
