It’s easier than it looks.

MATERIALS

• 1/ 3 yard each 5 different- color family wave prints* • 1/ 3 yard each of 5 tonals to match wave print color families* • 5/ 8 yard coordinati­ng print* • 23/ 8 yards white tonal* • Backing to size • Batting to size • Thread • Basic sewing tools and supplies *New Wave fabric collection by Caryl Bryer Fallert- Gentry and Blush Collection for Benartex used to make sample.

CUTTING From each wave print:

• Cut 1 (67/ 8" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 5 (67/ 8") squares. Cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 10 A triangles each fabric. Set aside 1 triangle of each fabric for another project.

From each matching tonal:

• Cut 1 (71/4" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 3 (71/4") B squares each fabric.

From coordinati­ng print:

• Cut 6 (21/4" by fabric width) binding strips.

From white tonal:

• Cut 3 (71/4" by fabric width) strips.

Subcut strips into 15 (71/4") C squares.

• Cut 1 (61/2" by fabric width) strip.

Subcut strip into 5 (61/2") D squares.

• Cut 7 (3" by fabric width) E strips.

• Cut 6 (4" by fabric width) F/G strips.

3. Cut apart on the drawn lines to make four identical B-C units as shown in Figure 2. Press seams toward B.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the remaining B and C squares. Set aside three B-C units of each color for another project.

5. Select one B-C unit and one samecolor family A triangle. Sew A to the B-C unit to complete one Split QuarterSqu­are Triangle block as shown in Figure 3; press seam toward A.

6. Repeat step 5 to complete nine Split Quarter-Square Triangle blocks in each of the five color families to total 45 blocks referring to Figure 4.

COMPLETING THE QUILT

Refer to the Assembly Diagram as needed.

1. Select and join nine same-color family blocks and add a D square to the B end to make a vertical row; press. Repeat to make five vertical rows.

2. Join the E strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Subcut strip into four 3" x 60½" E strips.

3. Join the rows with the E strips to complete the pieced center; press.

4. Join the F/G strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Subcut strip into two each 4" x 60½" F strips and 4" x 47½" G strips.

5. Sew the F strips to opposite long sides and G strips to the top and bottom of the pieced center to complete the quilt top; press.

6. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics on page 94.

7. Quilt as desired.

8. Bind edges referring to Quilting Basics on page 94 to finish.
