each fabric. From 1/3 yard tonals: • Cut 3 (21/2" by fabric width) A strips
each fabric. From green tonal: • Cut 3 (21/2" by fabric width) A strips. • Cut 6 (21/4" by fabric width) binding strips. From white solid: • Cut 28 (21/2" by fabric width) B strips.
COMPLETING THE UNITS
1. Sew an A strip to a B strip with right sides together along length to make an A-B strip set; press seam toward B. Repeat to make a total of 28 A-B strip sets. 2. Subcut the strip sets into 41/2"-square A-B segments referring to Figure 1. You will need the following segments: 12 each red-violet, red and orange, 15 yellow-orange, 19 yellow, 23 yellow-green, 24 each green and light blue, 21 medium blue, 17 dark blue and 13 purple (Figure 2).

Refer to the Assembly Diagram for positioning of segments and rows to create the zigzag pattern. 1. Select and join 12 A-B segments to make an X row, starting with a vertical segment and then a horizontal segment and continuing the sequence across the row; press. Repeat to make a total of eight X rows. 2. Repeat step 1 to make eight Y rows, except start the row with a horizontal A-B segment and then a vertical A-B segment, repeating the sequence across the row.
3. Join the rows starting with the X row and alternating with the Y rows to complete the quilt top.
4. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics on page 94. 5. Quilt as desired. 6. Bind edges referring to Quilting Basics on page 94 to finish. QW
