BIG BLOOM TABLE MAT TEMPLATE

-

3. Topstitch 1/4" from edge on each leaf.

4. Transfer leaf quilting lines to the front side of each leaf referring to pattern; hand- or machine-quilt on marked lines to complete the leaves.

COMPLETING THE TABLE MAT

1. Place a flower top right sides together on a 13" backing square; pin to a same-size batting square.

2. Sew all around, leaving open where marked on pattern for leaf insertion. Note: Leaf is inserted on one side of one flower and on the opposite side of a second flower.

3. Cut backing and batting even with flower top edges; trim batting again close to stitching to reduce bulk. Clip curves and turn right side out through the opening. Fold seam allowance of opening to the inside and press edges flat.

4. Repeat steps 1–3 to complete three large flowers.

5. Insert the wide end of one leaf 3/8" into the opening of one flower, matching the cut edges to the curves of the flower as shown in Figure 4; hand-stitch the opening closed, catching the leaf in the stitching. Repeat with a second flower. Hand-stitch the openings of the third flower closed.

6. Topstitch all around each flower 1/4" from the edge. Quilt flower as desired.

7. Make six French knots in each dark yellow flower center using the yellow No. 8 pearl cotton and embroidery needle to finish. QW
