• 1 yard light yel­low batik* • 11/4 yards mul­ti­col­ored batik* • 11/4 yards or­ange batik* • 13/4 yards dark green/gold batik* • 23/4 yards white solid • Back­ing to size • Bat­ting to size • Thread • Ba­sic sewing tools and sup­plies *Tonga Vine­yard batiks from Time­less Trea­sures used to make sam­ple. CUT­TING From light yel­low batik: • Cut 10 (21/2" by fab­ric width) A strips. From mul­ti­col­ored batik: • Cut 5 (21/2" by fab­ric width) H strips. • Cut 5 (41/2" by fab­ric width) I strips. From or­ange batik: • Cut 5 (21/2" by fab­ric width) B strips. • Cut 5 (41/2" by fab­ric width) F strips. From dark green/gold batik: • Cut 5 (41/2" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut strips into 35 (41/2") J squares. • Cut 3 (27/ 8" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut strips into 35 (27/ 8") D squares. • Cut 8 (21/4" by fab­ric width) bind­ing strips. From white solid: • Cut 3 (27/ 8" by fab­ric width) strips.

Sub­cut strips into 35 (27/ 8") C squares. • Cut 5 (21/2" by fab­ric width) E strips. • Cut 10 (61/2" by fab­ric width) G strips.

3. Sew an E strip to an A strip to an F strip with right sides to­gether along length to make an E-A-F strip set; press. Re­peat to make a to­tal of five E-A-F strip sets.

4. Sub­cut the E-A-F strip sets into 70 (21/2" x 81/2") E-A-F units as shown in Fig­ure 2.

5. Sew a G strip to an H strip with right sides to­gether along length to make a G-H strip set; press. Re­peat to make a to­tal of five G-H strip sets.

6. Sub­cut the G-H strip sets into 70 (21/2" x 81/2") G-H units as shown in Fig­ure 3.

7. Sew a G strip to an I strip with right sides to­gether along length to make a G-I strip set; press. Re­peat to make a to­tal of five G-I strip sets.

8. Sub­cut the G-I strip sets into 70 (21/2" x 101/2") G-I units as shown in Fig­ure 4.

9. Draw a line from cor­ner to cor­ner on the wrong side of each C square.

10. Re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 5, place a C square right sides to­gether with a D square and stitch 1/4" on each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press the units open to make two C-D units.

11. Re­peat step 10 with all C and D squares to make a to­tal of 70 C-D units. COM­PLET­ING THE BLOCKS

1. Se­lect one J square and two each A-B, E-A-F, G-H, G-I and C-D units to com­plete one Au­tumn Trails block.

2. Sew an A-B unit to op­po­site sides of J as shown in Fig­ure 6; press.

3. Sew an E-A-F unit to the top and bot­tom of the stitched unit as shown in Fig­ure 7; press.

4. Sew a G-H unit to the top and bot­tom of the pieced unit as shown in Fig­ure 8; press.

5. Sew a C-D unit to the G end of each G-I unit to make a pieced strip as shown in Fig­ure 9; press.

6. Sew a pieced strip to op­po­site long sides of the pieced unit as shown in Fig­ure 10 to com­plete one Au­tumn Trails block; press. 7. Re­peat steps 1–6 to com­plete a to­tal of 35 Au­tumn Trails blocks. COM­PLET­ING THE QUILT Re­fer to the As­sem­bly Diagram for po­si­tion­ing of blocks and rows.

1. Ar­range and join five Au­tumn Trails blocks to make an X row re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 11; press. Re­peat to make a to­tal of four X rows. Re­peat to make three Y rows, turning each block op­po­site those in the X rows. 2. Join the rows, al­ter­nat­ing X and Y rows, to com­plete the quilt top.

3. Cre­ate a quilt sand­wich re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 94. 4. Quilt as de­sired. 5. Bind edges re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 94 to fin­ish. QW
