MATERIALS

• 1/4 yard rust triangle print • 1/4 yard green leaf print • 3/8 yard each of the following: dark rust print bright red print orange dot print stone print tan triangle print multicolor­ed leaf print green dot print dark green print • 1 yard black solid • 13/8 yards rust leaf print • Backing to size • Batting to size • Thread • Basic sewing tools and supplies

CUTTING

From rust triangle print: • Cut 2 (3" by fabric width) strips. From green leaf print: • Cut 2 (3" by fabric width) strips. From each 3/8- yard print: • Cut 2 (3" by fabric width) strips. • Cut 1 (37/8" by fabric width) strip. Subut strip into 2 (37/8") squares each; cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 4 B triangles each fabric. Subcut strips into 3 (31/2")

A squares each. Subcut strips into 1 (11/2" x 61/2")

F strip each. From black solid: • Cut 2 (37/8" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 18 (37/8") squares. Cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 36 C triangles. • Cut 2 (31/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 18 (31/2") squares. Cut 9 squares in half on 1 diagonal to make 18 E triangles. Set aside remaining 9 squares for D. • Cut 3 (11/2" by fabric width) G strips. • Cut 2 (11/2" x 381/2") H strips. From rust leaf print: • Cut 2 (3" by fabric width) strips. • Cut 1 (37/8" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 2 (37/8") B squares, 3 (31/2") A squares and 1 (11/2" x 61/2") F strip. Cut the B squares in half on 1 diagonal to make 4 B triangles. • Cut 5 (3" by fabric width) I/J strips. • Cut 6 (21/4" by fabric width)

PIECING & COMPLETING THE LEAF BLOCKS

1. To complete one Leaf block, select matching A, B and F pieces. 2. Sew an E triangle to opposite sides of an F strip as shown in Figure 1; press seams toward E. 3. Trim the E-F unit to 31/2" x 31/2" square to complete the unit. 4. Sew B to C along the diagonal to make a B-C unit as shown in Figure 2; press seam toward C. Repeat to make four B-C units.

5. Join two B-C units with D to make the top row as shown in Figure 3; press seams toward D. Figure 3 6. Join two A squares with one B-C unit to make the center row as shown in Figure 4; press seams toward A.
