• 3/8 yard green small leaf print • 3/8 yard orange tonal • 3/8 yard green tonal • 3/4 yard gold tonal • 2 yards black solid • 21/8 yards large leaf print • 41/2 yards backing • Batting 64" x 77" • Thread • Basic sewing tools and supplies

CUTTING

From green small leaf print: • Cut 2 (41/2" by fabric width) A strips. From orange tonal: • Cut 4 (21/4" by fabric width) F strips. From green tonal: • Cut 4 (21/4" by fabric width) D strips. From gold tonal: • Cut 3 (41/2" by fabric width) strips.

Subcut into 24 (41/2") I squares. • Cut 5 (11/2" by fabric width) M/N strips. From black solid: • Cut 4 (1" by fabric width) B strips. • Cut 16 (1" by fabric width) strips. Subcut into 24 each 1" x 51/2" Cs trips,1"x9"Hs trips and 1" x91/2"Js trips. • Cut 5 (2" by fabric width) K/L strips. • Cut 6 (11/2" by fabric width) Q/R strips. • Cut 7 (21/4" by fabric width)

binding strips. From large leaf print: • Cut 8 (21/4" by fabric width) E strips. • Cut 2 (4" by fabric width) strips.

Subcut into 24 (21/4" x4 ") G pieces. • Cut 6 (21/2" by fabric width) O/P strips. • Cut 6 (31/2" by fabric width) S/T strips.

COMPLETING THE BLOCKS

1. Sew an A strip between two B strips to make an A-B strip set referring to Figure 1. Repeat. Subcut the strip sets into 12 (41/2" x 51/2") A-B units.

2. Sew a D strip to an E strip to make a D-E strip set as shown in Figure 2. Repeat to make four strip sets. Subcut the strip sets into 12 (51/2" x 4") D-E units and 12 (71/4" x 4") D-E units. 3. Sew an E strip to an F strip to make an E-F strip set referring to Figure 3. Repeat to make four strip sets. Subcut the strip sets into 12 (51/2" x 4") E-F units and 12 (71/4" x 4") E-F units. 4. To piece one block, sew a C strip to opposite sides of an A-B unit as shown in Figure 4; add a 51/2" x 4" D-E unit to the left edge and a 51/2" x 4" E-F unit to the right edge to complete the block center row.

5. Sew G to one end of a 71/4" x 4" D-E unit and a 71/4" x 4" E-F unit referring to Figure 5; add an H strip to the E edge of each pieced unit and then an I square to the end to complete the block top and bottom rows.

6. Sew a J strip to opposite E edges of the center row with a partial seam as shown in Figure 6.

7. Join the top, bottom and center rows as shown in Figure 7; stitch the remaining end of each J strip to complete one Seasonal Shades block. 8. Repeat steps 4–7 to complete a total of 12 Seasonal Shades blocks.

COMPLETING THE QUILT

1. Arrange and join the blocks in four rows of three blocks each referring to the Assembly Diagram to complete the pieced center; press.

2. Join the K/L strips to make a long strip. Subcut into two 2" x 521/2" K strips and two 2" x 421/2" L strips.

3. Join the M/N strips to make a long strip. Subcut into two 11/2" x 551/2" M strips and two 11/2" x 441/2" N strips.

4. Join the O/P strips to make a long strip. Subcut into two 21/2" x 571/2" O strips and two 21/2" x 481/2" P strips.

5. Join the Q/R strips to make a long strip. Subcut into two 11/2" x 611/2" Q strips and two 11/2" x 501/2" R strips.

6. Join the S/T strips to make a long strip. Subcut into two 31/2" x 631/2" S strips and two 31/2" x 561/2" T strips.

7. Add the K–T border strips to the pieced center in alphabetic­al order referring to the Assembly Diagram to complete the quilt top.

8. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics on page 110. 9. Quilt as desired.

10. Bind referring to Quilting Basics on page 110 to finish.
