Christ­mas Mug Rug Set

Here’s the project you’ve been wait­ing for. Put those hol­i­day scrap fab­rics to use and cre­ate lots of sea­sonal mug rugs both for your home and for gifts.

Use those left­over hol­i­day scraps!


From red tonal: • Cut 5 (27/ 8") squares. Cut each square in half on 1 di­ag­o­nal to make 10 E1 tri­an­gles. • Cut 2 (21/2") E2 squares red tonal. From white Christ­mas print: • Cut 2 (21/2") F squares and 1 each 21/2" x 41/2" G and 23/4" x 81/2" H rec­tan­gle white print.


1. Place two E1 tri­an­gles right sides to­gether and sew along one short side and the long edge, leav­ing one short side open as shown in Fig­ure 1. 4. Re­peat steps 1–3 to com­plete a to­tal of four star points. 5. Draw a di­ag­o­nal line from cor­ner to cor­ner on the wrong side of each E2 square. 6. Re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 3, place an E2 square right sides to­gether on one end of the G rec­tan­gle; stitch on the marked line. Trim seam al­lowance to 1/4" and press E2 to the right side. 7. Re­peat step 6 on the op­po­site end of G to com­plete the E2-G unit as shown in Fig­ure 4.
