Christmas Mug Rug Set

Here’s the project you’ve been waiting for. Put those holiday scrap fabrics to use and create lots of seasonal mug rugs both for your home and for gifts.

CUTTING

From red tonal: • Cut 5 (27/ 8") squares. Cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 10 E1 triangles. • Cut 2 (21/2") E2 squares red tonal. From white Christmas print: • Cut 2 (21/2") F squares and 1 each 21/2" x 41/2" G and 23/4" x 81/2" H rectangle white print.

COMPLETING THE CHRISTMAS STAR MUG RUG

1. Place two E1 triangles right sides together and sew along one short side and the long edge, leaving one short side open as shown in Figure 1. 4. Repeat steps 1–3 to complete a total of four star points. 5. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each E2 square. 6. Referring to Figure 3, place an E2 square right sides together on one end of the G rectangle; stitch on the marked line. Trim seam allowance to 1/4" and press E2 to the right side. 7. Repeat step 6 on the opposite end of G to complete the E2-G unit as shown in Figure 4.
