Color Streaks Runner & Place Mats
Put your scraps to work making these lovely place mats and table runner. Just pick your background fabric and dig through your scraps for your favorites.

Color Streaks Runner MATERIALS
• Scraps assorted- color tonals
and prints • 1 yard dark gray tonal • Backing to size • Batting to size • Thread • Basic sewing tools and supplies
CUTTING From assorted-color scraps:
• Cut approximately 60 strips 11/4"–2" wide
and 7" long. • Cut 21/4"-wide strips from longer assortedcolor scraps in varying lengths of 12"–18" to equal 160" when joined for binding. From dark gray tonal: • Cut 2 (141/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 2 (61/2" x 141/2") A strips, 4 (31/2" x 141/2") B strips, 2 (41/2" x 141/2") C strips, 2 (21/2" x 141/2") D strips and 1 (51/2" x 141/2") E strip.
COMPLETING THE RUNNER
Refer to the Assembly Diagram for construction steps. 1. Select 11 or 12 of the scrap strips of varying widths; join the strips on the 7" lengths to make a strip set 7" x at least 15"; press seams open. Repeat to make four or five strip sets. 2. Referring to Figure 1, subcut the strip sets into four 21/2"-wide I strips, four 11/2"-wide J strips and two 31/2"-wide K strips. Trim each strip to 141/2" tall. 3. Arrange and join the A, B, C, D and E strips with the pieced I, J and K strips along the 141/2" sides to make the pieced runner top; press.

4. Create a quilt sandwich referring to Quilting Basics on page 94. 5. Quilt as desired. 6. Bind edges using the assorted scrap binding strips referring to Quilting Basics on page 94 to finish.

• Scraps of assorted- color tonals
and prints • 1/4 yard each 2 tonals or prints • 1/2 yard dark gray tonal • 2 backing rectangles to size • 2 batting rectangles to size • Thread • Basic sewing tools and supplies
CUTTING From assorted-color scraps:
• Cut approximately 30 strips 11/4"–2" wide and 7" long.
From tonals or prints:
• Cut 2 (21/4" by fabric width) strips each fabric for binding.
From dark gray tonal:
• Cut 1 (121/2" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 2 (21/2" x 121/2") F strips, 4 (31/2" x 121/2") G strips and 2 (41/2" x 121/2") H strips.
COMPLETING THE PLACE MATS
Refer to the Assembly Diagram for construction steps.
1. Select nine or 10 of the scrap strips of varying widths; join the strips on the 7" lengths to make a strip set 7" x at least 13"; press seams open. Repeat to make a total of two or three strip sets.
2. Subcut the strip sets into four 11/2"-wide L strips and two 21/2"-wide M strips as shown in Figure 2. Trim each strip to 121/2" tall.
3. Arrange and join one each F and H strip and two G strips with two L strips and one M strip to make one place mat top; press. Repeat to make a second place mat top.
4. Create a quilt sandwich with one each backing and batting rectangle and one place mat top referring to Quilting Basics on page 94. Repeat with the second place mat top. 5. Quilt as desired. 6. Bind edges using two matching binding strips for each place mat referring to Quilting Basics on page 94 to finish. QW
