CUTTING

Prepare templates for A, B, C and D using patterns given. From caramel/gold dot: • Cut 3 (41/4" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 20 (41/4") squares. Cut each square on both diagonals to make 80 H triangles. From poinsettia print: • Cut 5 (131/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 9 (131/2") D squares.

Set aside to cut D pieces later. From ivory/gold swirl: • Cut 5 (91/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 72 A pieces using

the prepared template. • Cut 2 (71/4" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 9 (71/4") squares. Cut each square on both diagonals to make 36 E triangles. • Cut 3 (41/4" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 20 (41/4") F squares and 2 (37/ 8") K squares. Cut each F square on both diagonals to make 80 F triangles. Cut each K square in half on 1 diagonal to make 4 K triangles. • Cut 7 (2" by fabric width) M/N strips. From scarlet/gold bubble print: • Cut 8 (71/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 36 C pieces using

the prepared template. • Cut 3 (25/ 8" by fabric width) strips.

Subcut strips into 36 (25/ 8") I squares. • Cut 1 (37/ 8" by fabric width) strip. Subcut strip into 6 (37/ 8") squares. Cut each square in half on 1 diagonal to make 12 J triangles. • Cut 8 (21/4" by fabric width) binding strips.

From green/gold tonal: • Cut 3 (131/4" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 36 B pieces using

prepared template. • Cut 5 (51/ 8" by fabric width) strips. Subcut strips into 72 (25/ 8" x 51/ 8")

G rectangles. • Cut 8 (31/2" by fabric width) strips. Subcut 1 strip into 4 (31/2") L squares. Set aside remainder and 7 remaining strips for O/P borders.

CUTTING THE D PIECES

1. Fold each D square in half vertically and horizontally; finger-press to hold.

2. Place the prepared D template on the folds of one folded square as per pattern and cut one D piece as shown in Figure 1. Repeat to cut a total of nine D pieces.

COMPLETING THE POINSETTIA BLOCKS

1. Center the curved side of a B piece on one curved side of D, right sides together and matching centers; pin to hold. Pin the beginning end to match and stitch from the end to the center as shown in Figure 2.

2. Complete the stitching from the center to the opposite end as shown in Figure 3.

3. Press B to the right side with seam toward B.

4. Repeat steps 1–3 with three more B pieces to complete the B-D unit as shown in Figure 4.

5. Repeat steps 1–3 with A and C pieces to complete four A-C units referring to Figure 5.

6. Sew an A-C unit to each side of the B-D unit to complete one Poinsettia block as shown in Figure 6; press. 7. Repeat steps 1–6 to complete a total of nine Poinsettia blocks.

COMPLETING THE BORDER BLOCKS

1. Sew H to one long side of G as shown in Figure 7; press. Repeat to make 36 each G-H and reversed G-H units. 2. Add E to the G side of one G-H unit as shown in Figure 8; press.

3. Align the edges of the square rotary ruler with the long edges of E and H and trim excess G even with those edges to complete one G corner unit as shown in Figure 9.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to make a total of 36 G corner units.

5. Sew F to two adjacent sides of I to make an F-I unit as shown in Figure 10. Repeat to make a total of 36 units.

6. Sew an F-I unit to each reversed G-H unit as shown in Figure 11; press. 7. Trim excess G as in step 3 to complete one I corner unit as shown in Figure 12.

8. Repeat step 7 to complete a total of 36 I corner units.

9. Sew a G corner unit to an I corner unit to complete one Border block as shown in Figure 13; press. 10. Repeat step 9 to complete a total of 36 Border blocks.

COMPLETING THE CORNER BLOCKS

1. Sew H to F on a short side; press. Add J to make an F-H-J unit as shown in Figure 14; press. Repeat to make four F-H-J units and four reversed F-H-J units.

2. Sew J to K along the long edges to make a J-K unit as shown in Figure 15; press. Repeat to make four J-K units.

3. Select one each L square, J-K unit, F-H-J unit and reversed F-H-J unit to complete one Corner Block.

4. Join the units and square to make two rows; press. Join the rows to complete one Corner block; press. 5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to complete a total of four Corner blocks.

COMPLETING THE QUILT

Refer to the Assembly Diagram for construction steps.

4. Sew a side row to opposite sides of the pieced center; press.

5. Sew a Corner block to each end of the remaining side rows; press. Sew these rows to the top and bottom of the pieced center; press.

6. Join the M/N strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Subcut strip into two each 2" x 661/2" M strips and 2" x 691/2" N strips.

7. Sew M strips to the top and bottom, and N strips to opposite sides of the pieced center; press.

8. Join the O/P strips on the short ends to make one long strip; press. Subcut strips into two each 31/2" x 691/2" O strips and 31/2" x 751/2" P strips.

9. Sew the O strips to the top and bottom, and P strips to opposite sides of the pieced center to complete the quilt top; press.
