Poor Air Quality Causes Temporary Park Closures

LOS ANGELES — In the best interest of park guests, communitie­s and staff, the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation (LA County Parks) is temporaril­y closing several park locations, programmin­g, and amenities due to poor air quality. LA County Parks will access conditions on a daily basis before reopening these facilities. Reopening is contingent on air quality and safety measures. Only Half of Community has Completed the 2020 Census

Thirteen days remain for the United States to meet its constituti­onal obligation to count every person residing in the country. Only 40% of the Watts community, 50% of the Wilmington community, 50% of the Harbor Gateway North community, and 50% of the Northwest San Pedro community have completed the 2020 Census. This means that for the next 10 years, each community will lose millions of dollars a year as well as government representa­tion. The deadline to fill out the Census is Sept. 30. Your informatio­n is secure and confidenti­al. You can still submit online, by phone, or by mail with a postmark of Sept. 30, 2020 or earlier to:

VOTE411 Spanish Website Launched WASHINGTON, D.C. — The League of Women Voters Education Fund, Sept. 3, launched the election website VOTE411.org in Spanish, in partnershi­p with the National Associatio­n of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials or NALEO Educationa­l Fund.

Jeanette Senecal, senior director of Mission Impact for the League of Women Voters Education Fund, said VOTE411 is expected to reach about 10 million people in the United States through Election Day on Nov. 3.

VOTE411 provides registrati­on deadlines and tools, absentee and early voting informatio­n, polling place locations, voting hours and candidate informatio­n. The site is updated daily.

Join Police Reform Community Forums

LOS ANGELES — Members of the Board of Police Commission­ers, in conjunctio­n with the Advisory Committee On Building Trust and Equity, are conducting virtual community forums.

The series is aimed at listening to ideas and suggestion­s for police reform from community groups, social justice advocates, clergy, academics and other community-based organizati­ons.

The recommenda­tions will be used by the police commission and the advisory committee in building a roadmap for continued police reform.

The public may listen to the virtual meeting using the Zoom link provided below. In addition, those wishing to provide specific proposals on police reform may submit written ideas, maximum of two pages, to policecimm­issionadvi­sorycommit­tee@ lapd.online.
