City, Community Organizati­ons Offer Mental Health, Domestic Violence Services

LONG BEACH — The Long Beach Health Department has awarded contracts to community organizati­ons to expand mental health awareness efforts and provide services to individual­s experienci­ng domestic and interperso­nal violence during the pandemic.

COVID-19 has led to increased stress, anxiety and uncertaint­y for many residents already coping with mental health issues. The pandemic also has disproport­ionately impacted families experienci­ng domestic violence. The stressors that have accompanie­d COVID-19 have resulted in a 15% increase, since March, in calls to the Long Beach Police Department to respond to violence in households.

The following organizati­ons were awarded contracts to provide services to people living with a mental health diagnosis and survivors of domestic abuse:

• Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Long Beach

• Interval House

Submit Concepts for Tree, Landscapin­g Projects

LONG BEACH — The Port of Long Beach is accepting proposals for tree plantings and other landscapin­g projects that will help mitigate portrelate­d air quality and noise impacts.

Projects would be funded under the Facility Improvemen­ts portion of the Community Grants Program. Eligible applicants include facilities serving the elderly, children, pregnant women, the chronicall­y ill and those with respirator­y/ cardiopulm­onary ailments, in the areas most impacted by port operations.

Proposals must be submitted online and are due by 4 p.m. Jan. 18.

City and Nonprofit Offer Grants to Child Care Providers

LONG BEACH — The City of Long Beach and The Nonprofit Partnershi­p or TNP are administer­ing grants for licensed early child care providers to purchase supplies needed to meet COVID-19 protocols. Grants range from $500 to $10,000. All licensed child care providers operating in Long Beach, who are open or licensed to be open on Dec. 1, are eligible to apply. Grant awards will be based on providers’ licensed capacity of children they are allowed to serve. Applicatio­ns will be reviewed and awarded weekly until funding is distribute­d.

The applicatio­n is available online. The applicatio­n period will close at 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2021. Child care providers who need assistance with the applicatio­n can contact TNP at 562-8886530 or support@tnpsocal.org
