College news

Among the more than 300 cadets who received bachelor’s degrees from Virginia Military Institute during its commencement in May 16 was Sean M. Knick II, son of Sean M. and Deborah Knick of Washington. Cadet Knick received a bachelor of science in civil engineering.

Brendan Martyn of Huntly was one of 70 seniors who graduated last month at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal. Martyn, who will attending the University of South Carolina this fall, was also accepted to the University of Colorado at Boulder, Auburn University, the University of Oregon, and East Carolina University. Brendan is the son of Elizabeth Kauffmann of Huntly and Tony Martyn of Fayetteville.

Amanda Carroll of Castleton, a graduate of Wakefield Country Day School, made the Dean’s List at the Rochester Institute of Technology for the spring 2016 semester. Carroll is studying media arts and technology.

HONORS FOR KOPJANSKI AT R-MA

Among the Randolph- Macon Academy Middle School students honored at the school’s annual Middle School Awards Night in Front Royal last month was eighth-grader Benjamin Kopjanski of Boston, who received the World History, Physical Science and Physical Education 8 Outstanding Student Certificates.

In each discipline R-MA faculty selected students to receive these certificates who demonstrate outstanding mastery of the material — through their written work, participation in class discussions and activities and success in achieving high marks. Ben won two more awards for the evening as well, the first being the Aim High Award, which is presented to one girl and one boy of the eighth grade class who best demonstrated character, scholarship, and positive leadership throughout the year.

These students aimed high, set goals, and worked hard to achieve them for their entire middle school career. Ben also received the Principal’s List Award for maintaining a 3.5 to 3.99 GPA for the entire school year. Ben is the son of Melanie Kopjanski of Boston.
