Josephine Butler Vest

Josephine Butler Vest, of Woodville, Va. passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on September 9, 2016. She was born in Woodville on April 16, 1934, to James Ashby Butler and Vallie Corbin Butler, and was a lifelong resident of Rappahanno­ck County. She graduated from Rappahanno­ck County High School in 1952, and married her high school sweetheart, Rodney Vest, in 1956, a marriage that would last almost 60 years.

She was employed for over 30 years as secretary for the Rappahanno­ck County Farm Bureau, and was a member of the Five Forks Baptist Church. In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling throughout the country, and cooking and entertaini­ng friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Rodney, her children, Pat Vest Whorton and her husband Charles, and Todd Vest and his wife Kim, all of Woodville, Va. She is also survived by her grandchild­ren, Mary Ashley Vest, and Logan Ashby Vest, who were the lights of her life.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 16, from 6 to 8 PM at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel in Culpeper, Va. Services will be held at Found and Sons on Saturday, September 17, at 11 AM, Carl Menefee officiatin­g. Pallbearer­s will be Logan Vest, Rick Kohne, Greg Wayland, Bobby Foster, Seth Wayland and Greg Settle.
