-

Talbot (Toby) Lackland Warren was gathered at his home in Paris, Virginia on January 9, 2017. He was born on November 11, 1944 in Washington, the District of Columbia, to Emily Talbot Warren and Dr. Frederick Franklin Warren of Middleburg, Virginia. He spent his career teaching French and Latin in area private schools, and managing local farms. He attended The Hill School (class of 1958) in Middleburg, Virginia, The Hill School (class of 1962) in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and earned a Bachelor´s degree in Sociology from the University of Virginia (class of 1966) in Charlottesville, Virginia. An avid outdoorsman and a lifetime student, Toby had a complete knowledge of the natural world and its wonders. He was a hunter, angler, and marksman of the highest caliber. His appreciation for the natural wonders around him made him a devoted conservationist. He was a tree-, bird-, fish-, and wildlife-biologist; a remarkable locator of arrowheads, morels, and wild turkeys; a dowser or water witch who located hundreds of well sites for area residents and their livestock; an accomplished paddler and river-runner; an expert in tree and wildflower identification; a devotee to weather patterns; and a dedicated gardener and farmer. A voracious reader with an immense vocabulary, he was an authority on local history, geography, and sociology. Toby had a witty sense of humor, an optimistic outlook, and an endearing streak of mischief. Talbot is survived by his wife, Walta Martin Warren, and their daughter, Lila Hammond Warren; his children by a previous marriage, Emily Talbot Schultz and Samuel Lackland Talbot; two uncles, John Allan Talbot III and Richard Byrd Warren; his sister, Penny Gibson; his siblings, John Talbot Sharp, Page Sharp Candler, Katherine Sharp Carey, Ginger Warren Wallach, Rebecca Warren Myers, and Elizabeth Warren Hale; and five grandchildren. A private graveside service was held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Upperville, Virginia on Thursday January 19th, 2017. There will be a celebration of Toby´s life at the outdoor chapel of Trinity Episcopal Church, Upperville, Virginia on Saturday April 22nd, 2017 at 12:00 pm, and all are welcome.
