Major Edwin G. Streapy
Major Edwin G. Streapy, 79, of Huntly, VA, died on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at his home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 26, at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Neal R. Davidson. Burial will follow in Washington Masonic Cemetery. Mr. Streapy was born August 12, 1937 in Pennsylvania, son of the late Edwin Gilbert Streapy, Sr. and Margaret Braun Streapy. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran where he achieved Expert status in surveillance. After serving his country, Mr. Streapy attended and graduated from American University with a Bachelor´s of Science degree in Law Enforcement. After graduation Mr. Streapy began a long career in law enforcement and retired from the Alexandria City Police, where he was the head of the Identification Bureau and was certified by all Northern Virginia courts as Expert Fingerprint and Photographer. He continued his career in law enforcement and retired as Major from the Rappahannock County Sheriff´s Office. In 1979 he and his wife founded High Places Orchard in Huntly, VA. He was a member and Past-President of the Virginia Horticulture Association, Life Member of the International Association for Identification, Associate Member of the Virginia Sheriff´s Institute, member of City of Alexandria Retired Police, Fire, and Sheriff´s Association, and was an expert marksman. Mr. Streapy lost the love of his life, Betty Jane Byrd Streapy just six days prior on January 15. Surviving are two daughters Lisa Streapy of Reston, VA and Cathy Nowell and her husband Steve of Front Royal, VA; one grandson Jeffrey Turner of Strasburg, VA; and two greatgrandsons Nathaniel Turner and Colton Turner. Pallbearers will be Sheriff Connie Smith, Sheriff Daniel T. McEathron, Gene McEathron, Curtis Crawford, Clyde Scott and Jeffrey Turner. Honorary pallbearer will be John Henry Woodward. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal, VA.
