➤ The county Broadband Committee meets on Tuesday, March 7, at 9:30 a.m. at the Washington fire station. Agenda includes a presentati­on by the representa­tive for rural broadband from Virginia’s Center for Innovative Technology.

➤ The Rappahanno­ck County Water & Sewer Authority (RCWSA) meets on Thursday, March 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Rappahanno­ck County courthouse on the 2nd floor.

➤ The School Board meeting and public hearing on the FY 18 budget will be held on March 14 at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

➤ The Rappahanno­ck Democratic Committee

meets on Tuesday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rappahanno­ck County Library. Everyone is welcome, and you don't have to be a member to participat­e. If you have any questions, please contact Ross O'Donoghue at 540-987-8019.

➤ Final call from RAAC for 2017 Grant Applicatio­ns.

The deadline for applying for a Claudia Mitchell Arts Fund grant is Wednesday, March 15. Details and a 2017 applicatio­n are available on RAAC's website: raac.org. All applicatio­ns must be submitted online by midnight on March 15.

➤ Rappahanno­ck County 4H Livestock Club invites prospectiv­e members to join. Ages 8-18 (must be age 9 by Sept. 30 to show that year). You do not need to live on a farm or have an animal to participat­e. The club meets on the third Monday of every month at the Extension Office (311-J Gay St., Washington), including the next meeting Monday, March 20, at 7 p.m.

➤ The Salem Ruritan Club

will award three $1,500 scholarshi­ps this year, one each to graduating seniors at Culpeper County High School, Eastern View High School and Rappahanno­ck County High School. The scholarshi­ps are based on a combinatio­n of academic achievemen­t, community service and financial need. Students are encouraged to pick up an applicatio­n from their guidance department and submit the completed applicatio­n form and narrative by the due date. The club is also offering a $500 scholarshi­p to a graduating senior, from one of the three high schools, pursuing an education and a career in law enforcemen­t preferably attending a local community college.

➤ All children who will be five years old by Sept. 30, 2017 may enter kindergart­en this August. Formal registrati­on for new Kindergart­ners will be held at Rappahanno­ck County Elementary School on Tuesday, April 4, Wednesday, April 5, Thursday, April 6, and Friday, April 7. The hours are 8:40 to 11:40 a.m. and 1 to 2:40 p.m. by appointmen­t only. Please contact Christy Taylor at the Elementary School Office at 540-227-0200 to schedule an appointmen­t.

➤ All are invited to The Warrenton Antiquaria­n Society’s annual Open Meeting, Tuesday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at the Warrenton-Fauquier Visitors Center, 33 N. Calhoun St. in Warrenton. Marc Leepson is the author of nine books including “What So Proudly We Hailed: Francis Scott Key, A Life,” the first biography of the author of the “Star-Spangled Banner” in 75 years.
