➤ Rappahanno­ck Lions Club conducting free hearing and vision screening for children (over 6 months) and adults on Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. at the Rappahanno­ck County Public Library, Washington.

➤ Open House at Belle Meade Day Camp for boys and girls, ages 6-13, on Sunday, May 7, 1-3. The camp sessions run from June 5-16, June 19-30, July 3-14, July 17-28, July 31- Aug. 17, with swimming, hiking, canoeing, archery, arts and crafts. Swim camps are June 5-9, July 3-7, July 17-21, for boys and girls from 4-7 p.m. (swimming, arts and crafts, story time). All programs at Belle Meade, 353 F.T. Valley Road, Sperryvill­e. ➤ The Town of Washington Town Council meets on Monday, May 8, at 7 p.m. at Town Hall. Highlights from the agenda include a Public Hearing on the FY 2017-2018 Budget. Council may enter into closed session in accordance for consultati­on with the Town Attorney in regard to a matter requiring the provision of legal advice, namely the sale or possible sale of Parcel 3, 0.5853 acres of the Avon Hall property, and for a discussion and considerat­ion of a sale or possible sale of Parcel 3, 0.5853 acres of the Avon Hall property where a discussion in open session would adversely affect the negotiatio­n strategy of the Town.

➤ The Planning Commission of the Town of Washington meets on Monday, May 8, and Monday, May

15, at 10 a.m. at Town Hall to continue the Comprehens­ive Plan review. The Public is welcome to attend.

➤ The School Board meets on Tuesday, May 9, at 6 p.m. in the band room at the Rappahanno­ck County High School.

➤ Rappahanno­ck Rapidan Community Services meets on Tuesday, May 9, at 1 p.m. at 15361 Bradford Road, Culpeper. Individual­s with disabiliti­es who require special assistance to attend and participat­e should contact Laura Wohlford at 540-8253100, extension 3146.

➤ The Rappahanno­ck Extension office invites each of you to attend a series of in-orchard meetings scheduled from April through May. Meet at the host orchard at 11 a.m. for a tour of the orchard, followed by a discussion of current orchard management recommenda­tions. ➤ The Rappahanno­ck County Democrats will be holding their general meetings on the second Saturday of each month, from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the Washington Town Hall in Washington.

➤ The Rappahanno­ck County Water & Sewer Authority (RCWSA) meets at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday May 11, at the Rappahanno­ck County courthouse on the 2d floor. The next meeting will be Saturday, May 13. ➤ Virginia Cooperativ­e Extension, Rappahanno­ck County is offering a Home Food Preservati­on Class on May 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m, at the Washington Baptist Church, 180 Gay St., Washington. Participan­ts will learn how to can fruits and vegetables using a pressure canner and water bath canner along with how to make jams and jellies.
