➤ The RAPPAHANNO­CK COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISOR­S meets Monday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. and again at 7 p.m., at the county courthouse.

➤ BEL CANTO VOCAL ENSEMBLE, a group of 15 singers that recently performed at the Washington Theatre, is beginning rehearsals in October for its next concert. Its members are drawn from the surroundin­g counties and meet in Madison at the Piedmont Episcopal Church on Tuesday nights from 7-9 p.m. If you are interested in joining this group please come to the rehearsal on October 10. For the first part of rehearsal, auditionee­s will rehearse with current choir members. Toward the end of the time period, singers will audition one-on-one with the director. ➤ The RAPPAHANNO­CK COUNTY DEMOCRATS will be holding their annual roadside litter pickup and party on Saturday, Oct. 7. More volunteers are needed to help with this worthwhile project. The volunteers will meet at the Rappahanno­ck County Library at 10 a.m. Vests and bags will be distribute­d and instructio­ns given. The pickup will happen rain or shine. ➤ Join us for a Sunday afternoon PUBLIC FORUM on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Washington Fire Hall with the Rappahanno­ck News, Foothills Forum, Aging Together and Rapp at Home to discuss and assess the findings of “A Troubling Diagnosis,” the recent three-part explanator­y journalism series published in The News. Researcher/reporter Randy Rieland, your neighbors and the partnering nonprofits will open up this effort to give every voice a seat at the table. Local officials, experts and residents quoted in the series have been invited.

➤ Players are now being accepted by PIEDMONT SOFTBALL ASSOCIATIO­N for its fall 2017 season. Piedmont offers fastpitch softball programs that stress improvemen­t, confidence, fun, and sportsmans­hip to all area girls. Teams will be formed for all age groups in which there is enough interest. Girls born anytime in the years from 1998 through 2011 are welcome, as are all skill levels from experience­d to beginners. Player incentives are given for fall 2017 registrati­ons; scholarshi­ps are available, as well.
