A GUIDE TO SENIOR SERVICES IN RAPPAHANNOCK COUNTY
The two largest providers of services for Rappahannock residents are the Rappahannock Department of Social Services and the Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board. Local support is also available from the Rappahannock Food Pantry, which provides hundreds of local families with FDA food, fresh local produce, and contributions of all kinds. Help is also available from the Benevolent Fund, which helps people with critical needs, such as unpaid utility bills. A local loan closet offers residents free use of items like wheelchairs, hospital beds, etc. The Foothills Area Mobility Service (FAMS) arranges rides at no cost. The Fauquier Free Clinic serves lowincome, uninsured Rappahannock residents. Other resources include the Senior Center, Aging Together, and Rapp at Home, which helps seniors stay in their homes as they age.

Domestic Violence, Abuse and Neglect If you are being abused by a partner or family member, call 911. The police will respond, make an arrest if an assault has occurred, write a report of the incident, and give you a summary of the report. They will also request an Emergency Protective Order if they believe you are in further danger. Adult Protective Services

The Culpeper Soil & Water Conservation District offers financial assistance to remedy septic system malfunctions and perform preventive maintenance. For safety and security, senior citizens can register with the sheriff’s office and agree to call that office every day before 11 a.m. If you don’t check in, they will call you. SNAP can be used like cash to buy eligible food items from authorized retailers. A SNAP account is established for eligible households and automatic deposits are made into the account each month. To access the account, they will also receive an EBT Card, which will debit the account each time eligible food items are purchased. The TANF program provides eligible families with monthly cash payments to meet their basic needs. Children must be under age 18, or if 18, will graduate from high school before age 19, going to school regularly if they are between the ages of five and 18, living with a parent or other relative, and a U.S. citizen or an eligible immigrant. The FAMS Call Center provides free information and referral to all available public, private and volunteer transportation systems. Free travel training is also available.
