ARTS THEATRE & PERFORMANCE
Castleton Festival
The annual summer music festival for young artists established by the late maestro, Lorin Maazel, and his wife, actress and teacher Dietlinde Turban Maazel, at their 550-acre estate on Castleton Farm Road, remains on a hiatus that began two years after the maestro’s passing in 2014. But Castleton’s state-of-the-art 140-seat Theatre House continues to offer a modest season of concerts and other performances through the fall and winter — recital and chamber music programs, dance and theatrical events and opera — as part of the Castleton in Performance series. For details, visit castletonfestival.org or call 540-937-3454.
The Little Washington Theatre
The Theatre presents a wide variety of professional musical and dramatic performances, usually on weekends. There’s jazz, chamber music, Celtic music, classical piano recitals and an eclectic mix of other musical and classical theatre performances during each of the Theatre’s January-to-June and September-to-December seasons. Favorites include Mark Russell, the famous political humorist and satirist, the Smithsonian Chamber Players, celebrated bluegrass bands and classic jazz bands. (RAAC presents its monthly Fridaynight film series here as well.) Reservations are recommended for most events at the Theatre, 291 Gay St., Washington.
