Rebecca Ellen Gore of Castleton, VA died Thursday, January 11, 2018, in Aldie, VA, where she had been a hospice patient in the Adler Center. She was 74, having been born July 9, 1943, to the late Richard F. Gore, Sr., and Rebecca E. Gore of Castleton.

She is survived by her brother and sister in law, Richard and Deborah Gore of Manassas, Va and three nieces: Margot and Marisa Gore of Manassas and Janel Gore Armitage, currently residing in Turkey.

Ms. Gore was a graduate of Rappahanno­ck County High School. Following that, she attended Mary Washington College in Fredericks­burg and the University of Virginia in Charlottes­ville, where she entered a nursing program as a recruit of the United States Army. She rose to the rank of Captain while assigned to Fort Sam Houston Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, caring for severely- wounded soldiers of the Vietnam War. While there, she met and married the late James Theodore Crooks, to whom she was married for 15 years.

Leaving the Army after 7 years, she traveled the country working for an agency which provided temporary nursing staff to medical institutio­ns, generally working in the O.R. She lived In Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Montana, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Florida before returning to Virginia in 1997 to care for her widowed mother. In Virginia, she worked at Culpeper and Warrenton Hospitals before retiring.

Ms. Gore was an active member and deacon at Forest Grove Baptist Church. She also enjoyed attending events at the Rappahanno­ck County Senior Center.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryvill­e Pike, Culpeper, VA with Rev. Nathan Tounley officiatin­g and E. Randolph Gore giving the eulogy. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Inurnment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper VFW Post 2524.

Honorary pallbearer­s will be Steve Gore, Steve Sedwick, Randolph Gore, Sam Compton, Wayne Armitage, and Danny Hitt.
