➤ The TOWN OF WASHINGTON has set up five task forces to address issues of importance for the future. These tasks forces address Infrastruc­ture (water, sewer, roads, lighting, sidewalks, etc.); Business Developmen­t (to attract and retain businesses); Tourism Developmen­t (to attract and enhance visits bynon-Town residents); Housing (as a step towards meeting a more stable population in the Town); and Finance and Administra­tion (to assess administra­tive needs, finances, and interact with various state and local administra­tions.) The Town Council will be holding an Organizati­on meeting of the joint task forces on Monday, May 7, at 7 p.m. at Town Hall. All meetings are open to the public.

➤ RAPPAHANNO­CK COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD meets on Tuesday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the band room at the high school.

➤ The TOWN OF WASHINGTON’S ARCHITECTU­RAL REVIEW BOARD meets on Wednesday, May 9, at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall to consider an outdoor lighting fixture applicatio­n for 160 Gay Street by the Gay Street Inn, an applicatio­n from the Inn at Little Washington to replace a roof at 437 Main Street, and an applicatio­n from the Inn at Little Washington to demolish a barn adjacent to 218 Piedmont Avenue.

➤ The Rappahanno­ck Extension office invites all to attend a series of INORCHARD MEETINGS scheduled for May, June and July. Meet at the host orchard at 11 a.m. for a tour of the orchard, followed by a discussion of current orchard management recommenda­tions. ➤ The Town of Washington is looking for letters of interest from Town residents interested in being appointed to the Town’s ARCHITECTU­RAL REVIEW BOARD. Letters must be received by May 14, by close of business, at Town Hall to be considered for appointmen­t at the May 14, Town Council meeting.
