West via east
If you haven’t noticed, a new traffic pattern will surround construction on the westbound Route 211/522 bridge over the North Fork
Thornton River between Waterpenny Lane and Mt. Vernon Lane bordering Sperryville.
Don’t expect a quick fix, either. Construction won’t be completed until July 2019.
With the westbound bridge closed, westbound traffic will use the eastbound bridge’s left lane, with eastbound traffic proceeding through the work zone in the right lane.
Apple butter season
One of our county’s most reliable signs that fall is here is stopping by Quicke Mart to see the Rappahannock Lions Club members selling their (almost world famous) apple butter.
Make plans now to stop by Quicke Mart starting one week from Saturday, Sept. 22, to stock up. Lions Club members will be happy to sell the tasty spread — $6 per pint; two for $10. The Lions will be slicing apples next Thursday at the Co-op on Lee Highway (stop in if you want to see a spectacle) and cooking it up low and slow at the community kitchen in Keezletown the following day.
Visit the Lions sales trailer at Quicke Mart on weekends this fall while supplies last. While there, you can also pick up some Virginia peanuts, upgrade your good oldfashioned brooms, or acquire a fine Rappahannock County T-shirt.
Proceeds benefit Rappahannock County causes throughout the year. Apple butter makes a great holiday gift, too. Contact Bud Meyer at 675-3629.
