Lawrence "Larry" Bernard Vierling
Lawrence "Larry" Bernard Vierling, age 76, of Carrollton, departed this life to be with his Savior Monday, September 3, 2018. He was born December 10, 1941 in Pittsburg, PA, son of the late Bernard Julius Vierling and Martha Jane Peairs Vierling.
He was a George Washington High School graduate and received his Bachelors' degree in 1964 from Kansas State University where he held many offices in the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He earned his pilot's license in ROTC and received his commission and wings. He proudly served in the United States Army Signal Corps as Company Commander, where he ranked as 1st Lieutenant from 1964 to 1966 at Fort Gordon, GA. He later worked at Delta Air Lines in the Engineering Department in Atlanta, moved to California, taking DC-8/-9 deliveries for Delta and coordinating L-1011 development. Later, he returned with Delta to Atlanta and retired in 1994 after 28 years of service. He was a Trustee of Atlanta Christian College, now Point University, and a board member for EES (a mission school in India), Bethshean Mexico Mission and Teaching Ministries International (Ukraine). He helped build several Habitat houses and maintained landscaping at his churches, the Auburn and UWG Christian Campus Fellowships, the Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park and Recovery and Restoration Ministries. He also enjoyed working with tractors and chainsaws, playing golf and tennis with friends and traveling. He visited most US National Parks, all 50 states and 25 countries. Many of his travels were dedicated mission trips, but wherever he went, he took Christ with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sandra Garner Vierling; two daughters, Laura B. Vierling Morris of McLean, VA, and Lee Vierling Moon (Tim) of Carrollton; brother, Bruce W. Vierling (Viva) of Flint Hill, VA; sister, Karen J. Vierling Allen (Jay) of Flint Hill, VA; four grandchildren, Cristal Moon Younker (Adam) of Fayetteville, GA, Caitlin Moon of Cleveland, OH, Stella J. Morris of McLean, VA, and Thomas A. Morris of McLean, VA; and one great grandchild, Roland A. Younker.
Celebration of Life will be conducted Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 2:30 PM from First Christian Church of Carrollton on Ward Street.
