Dwight Eugene “Ike” Frye, 61, of Washington, Virginia, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at Inova Fairfax Hospital. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 19, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Mt. Jackson with Reverend Matthew Diehl officiatin­g. Interment will follow at the Estes Family Cemetery in Washington, Virginia. Ike was born on December 26, 1956, in New Market, Virginia to the late Berlin N. Frye and Dollie Dodson Frye. He was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, and worked at VDOT for 23 years. He was currently the Warrenton Headquarte­rs Superinten­dent of Road Maintenanc­e. Ike married the love of his life, Robin Estes, on November 3, 1979. After their marriage, Ike and Robin made their home on the Estes Family Farm in Washington, Virginia. Ike and Robin were blessed with the addition of their son, Derick Judson “DJ” Frye, and blessed again when DJ married Ashley Foster. Ike was happiest when he was with his family, who he loved with a steadfast devotion. Whether Ike was out in the hayfield, or working with his VDOT crew, he took pride and made certain that the job was done right. Ike spent many happy days out in the woods, hunting in the hills on the family farm, and he loved to fish as well. Ike will always be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, his friendly nature, and his ability to make friends with anyone. Ike was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; William Frye and Jackie Frye. Surviving include his loving and devoted wife, Robin Estes Frye, one beloved son, Derick Judson “D.J.” Frye and wife Ashley of Washington, Virginia; one sister Margaret “Nook” Frye of New Market, Virginia; and two brothers Tommy Frye and wife Jackie of McGaheysvi­lle, Virginia, and Charlie Frye and wife Barbara of Edinburg, Virginia. Pallbearer­s will be Charlie Frye, C.J. Frye, Tommy Frye, Kevin Stringfell­ow, Manny Garcia, and Andy Cooper. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 18, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal, Virginia. Memorial contributi­ons may be made to the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 484, Mt. Jackson, Virginia 22842, the Washington Virginia Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, or the Amissville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
