Falwell shuns Liberty University staff member in favor of Riggleman
Bob Good, senior associate athletics director and a chief fundraiser at Liberty University, who earlier this month launched a Republican primary challenge to freshman Rep. Denver Riggleman, will not have the support of his school’s president.
Instead, Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. this week announced his endorsement of Riggleman.
“I am proud to offer my endorsement of Congressman Denver Riggleman for re-election in the 5th District of Virginia,” Falwell said in a statement. “Denver has been a champion for our conservative values in Congress and I respect his commitment to libertyminded ideals.
“He has visited us at Liberty University and his story of living out the American dream is an inspiration for me, my students, and the people he serves. I wholeheartedly support Congressman Riggleman. His military, executive and entrepreneurial experience has prepared him to serve the 5th district to an unmatched level. Congressman Riggleman stresses fiscal restraint, protects our constitutional rights, and fights for a business environment that allows entrepreneurs and employees to thrive. Let’s fight together for Virginia’s 5th district by re-electing Congressman Denver Riggleman!”
Riggleman replied that he is “tremendously excited to have Jerry's support. I have worked to further the conservative values that Jerry and I share and always put the 5th district first. I am committed to furthering those goals and will continue those efforts in Congress.”
A leader in the Lynchburg community, Falwell has been the president of Liberty, one of the nation's largest Christian universities, since 2007.
When not at Liberty, Good sits on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors.
