• Refuse Sites at Amissville and Flatwood will close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 27. They will remain closed on Thanksgiving Day, reopening on Friday, Nov. 29.
• Thanksgiving closings: All Rappahannock County government offices will close at noon Wednesday, Nov. 27, and reopen Monday, Dec. 2. Rappahannock County Public Schools begin Thanksgiving vacation Wednesday, with classes resuming Monday. Atlantic Union Bank and BB&T are both closed Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27. The Rappahannock News is closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28-29. Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services transportation will not operate on Wednesday, Nov. 27 through Friday, Nov. 29.
• Holiday Food Drive: Gray Ghost Vineyards, 14706 Lee Highway, Amissville, is sponsoring a special holiday food drive to benefit the Rappahannock Food Pantry. Help us surpass last year’s 3,000 pound record. All nonperishable food and monetary donations qualify you for a drawing to receive free tickets to one of Gray Ghost’s popular events. • The 2020 Virginia Master Gardener
Program through the Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) is accepting applications from Rappahanock residents. The program educates and trains community members on emerging and proven gardening and landscaping practices that preserve and protect the environment. Learn how to become a Master Gardener at an upcoming Information session at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Rappahannock VCE Office, 311-J Gay St., Washington. Cost of the program is $200 ($250 after Dec. 11). The tuition price covers all study materials and instructor fees. • Old Rag Master Naturalists (ORMN) membership meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 9. The meeting is being held at Germanna Community College’s Daniel Technology Center on 18121 Technology Dr., Culpeper, starting at 6:30 p.m. Ron Hughes, Land and Resource Manager with The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, will be the speaker. He will be providing an overview of DGIF programs and initiatives associated with Chronic Wasting Disease. He will talk about a need for citizen scientist support in monitoring/sampling activities in the deer population in Culpeper, Madison and Orange Counties. The public is welcome to attend.
• St. Peter Catholic Church in Washington announces that The Vatican has added December 10th to the Roman Calendar as the Feast of Our Lady of Loreto. Come hear a presentation and join the discussion of this new feast of Our Lady of Loreto and the Holy House of Loreto on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m, at Mercy Hall, in the rear of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 271 Winchester St., Warrenton. All are welcome! This presentation is being given by the Patricians of the Legion of Mary.
