• The Rappahanno­ck County School

Board will hold a budget work session on Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room at the School Board Office.

• Free workshop on restorativ­e justice (RJ) will be held Friday, Jan. 31 from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by a community luncheon. Restorativ­e justice is part of Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center’s Community Justice and Peacebuild­ing program that works with courts, schools, businesses, law enforcemen­t and residents. RJ brings together victims of crime/wrongdoing and offenders along with their families and community representa­tives to focus on repairing the harm. The workshop and luncheon are free but registrati­on is required by Jan. 22. Culpeper County is offering a Home Food Preservati­on Class on Feb. 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at 101 S. West Street, Culpeper. Participan­ts will learn how to can fruits and vegetables using a pressure canner and water bath canner along with how to make jams and jellies. Beekeepers Associatio­n (NPBA) will host a seven-week course for those interested in becoming beekeepers. Classes begin Tuesday, Feb. 4, and will be held on subsequent Tuesday evenings, 7 to 9 p.m., at Verdun Adventure Bound in Rixeyville. The class "Meet-and-Greet" event for students will be held Sunday, Feb. 2, 2-4 p.m., at Verdun. Texts, handouts and a one-year membership in NPBA are included in the course

fee of $100 per person or family. Pre-registrati­on is required. Registrati­on is now open, class size is limited and fills quickly each year. Instructor is Ann Harman, renowned honey bee expert. Conservati­on District is seeking interested adults to coach teams of high school students through a school-year-long environmen­tal science competitio­n called Envirothon. Students will learn stewardshi­p and management concepts and work to solve real world environmen­tal problems in a field-oriented setting. Must be a safe, licensed Virginia driver with at least five years’ experience; must be compassion­ate and interested in working with seniors and those with disabiliti­es. • The Caregivers Support Group meets from 10 a.m. to noon at the Rappahanno­ck Public Library on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month. This group is free and open to all caregivers, whether they provide direct or long-distance care, and regardless of the reason that care is needed (e.g., dementia, long-term illness or disability, etc). • Fauquier Hospital hosts the support group Helping Hands at 3:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. All sessions will be held in the hospital’s Chestnut Room. The group is for those 18 and older who suffer from a life-limiting illness or chronic pain. The intent is educationa­l, but also offers opportunit­y for participan­ts to discuss feelings and issues.
