Board will hold a budget work session on Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room at the School Board Office.
• Free workshop on restorative justice (RJ) will be held Friday, Jan. 31 from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by a community luncheon. Restorative justice is part of Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center’s Community Justice and Peacebuilding program that works with courts, schools, businesses, law enforcement and residents. RJ brings together victims of crime/wrongdoing and offenders along with their families and community representatives to focus on repairing the harm. The workshop and luncheon are free but registration is required by Jan. 22. • Virginia Cooperative Extension,
Culpeper County is offering a Home Food Preservation Class on Feb. 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at 101 S. West Street, Culpeper. Participants will learn how to can fruits and vegetables using a pressure canner and water bath canner along with how to make jams and jellies. Class cost is $25 and registration deadline is Jan. 31. • The Northern Piedmont
Beekeepers Association (NPBA) will host a seven-week course for those interested in becoming beekeepers. Classes begin Tuesday, Feb. 4, and will be held on subsequent Tuesday evenings, 7 to 9 p.m., at Verdun Adventure Bound in Rixeyville. The class "Meet-and-Greet" event for students will be held Sunday, Feb. 2, 2-4 p.m., at Verdun. Texts, handouts and a one-year membership in NPBA are included in the course
fee of $100 per person or family. Pre-registration is required. Registration is now open, class size is limited and fills quickly each year. Instructor is Ann Harman, renowned honey bee expert. • The Culpeper Soil & Water
Conservation District is seeking interested adults to coach teams of high school students through a school-year-long environmental science competition called Envirothon. Students will learn stewardship and management concepts and work to solve real world environmental problems in a field-oriented setting. • Aging Together needs volunteer drivers for its local transportation services in Rappahannock County. Be a compassionate driving force, transporting your neighbors to their healthcare, legal or other urgent appointments. Training and support provided. Flexible hours and destinations. Must be a safe, licensed Virginia driver with at least five years’ experience; must be compassionate and interested in working with seniors and those with disabilities. • The Caregivers Support Group meets from 10 a.m. to noon at the Rappahannock Public Library on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month. This group is free and open to all caregivers, whether they provide direct or long-distance care, and regardless of the reason that care is needed (e.g., dementia, long-term illness or disability, etc). • Fauquier Hospital hosts the support group Helping Hands at 3:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. All sessions will be held in the hospital’s Chestnut Room. The group is for those 18 and older who suffer from a life-limiting illness or chronic pain. The intent is educational, but also offers opportunity for participants to discuss feelings and issues.
